Recap / The Proud Family S 2 E 6 Hooray For Iesha

Go To

Penny and co. head to Hollywood to get their favorite show, Iesha, back on the air.

Tropes:

  • As Herself: Shaun Robinson.
  • Bittersweet Ending: In Oscar’s case, his product placement of Proud Snax ends tragically when the actress playing Mama on My Mama and Me chokes on them. “I’m ruined!” he cries.
  • Broken Pedestal: When Penny and her friends meet Sunny Stevens, she ends up being very abrasive and snobby. This later becomes subverted when we find out why she’s so crabby.
  • Celebrity Is Overrated: Iesha’s reason for trying to retire. She’s understandably fed up with the constant pressure she deals with when it comes to being famous.
  • Face Palm: Trudy understandably does this when Suga Mama embarrasses the family by chasing one of Sunny Stevens’ costars.
  • Impact Silhouette: Oscar falls off the billboard and his impact is shown.
  • Oh No You Didn't: Iesha’s catchphrase.
  • Papa Wolf: During the kid’s protests to get Iesha back on the air, Oscar becomes the fall guy for each of the security guard’s threats after he repeatedly points out that he would never hurt any of the kids. Bonus points for him defending Penny and her friends.
  • Take That!:
    • The episode makes it clear that writers really hate Moesha and The Parkers.
    • It could also be one to hardcore fandoms who want a show to go on forever, even when it ends on a wonderful note. Even so, this didn’t stop Bruce Smith and his team from continuing the Proud Family’s adventures in the revival series Louder and Prouder.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Oscar becomes the victim of his violation twice during the seemingly wild Studio Tour. First, he neglects his seatbelt during the Megaquake section (thinking that they’ll be killed if they really pulled a 9.5) and ends up getting burned alive while trying to prove to Trudy that the flames of the Wildfire section are not real (which they are).
  • Worst News Judgement Ever: Oscar's commercial for Proud Snacks was interrupted by a special report...that the Iesha show was cancelled, even though it was already announced just seconds. All just to cause Oscar dismay.
