Recap / The Proud Family S 2 E 13 Theres Something About Rene

Go To

Stressed to her breaking point, Trudy decides to hire a housekeeper to give her a hand dealing with her family. When the Prouds hire a sweet young woman named Rene, Trudy starts feeling threatened by how perfect Rene seems.

  • A Day in the Limelight: This is one of the few episodes where Trudy takes center stage as the protagonist.
  • Big "NO!": The Cold Open ends with Trudy doing this, horrified with how sloppy and messy the house has become with her family and Penny's friends making the whole mess, complete with Eat the Camera.
  • Morton's Fork: The situation Trudy finds herself in; keep Rene, and feel upstaged, or get rid of her, and have her family hate her.
  • Parody Sue: Rene is an amazing cook, housekeeper, and person in general. Everything comes effortlessly to her and everyone loves her. Except for Trudy, who finds herself being pushed out of her own life due to how perfect Rene is. It turns out Rene is actually aware that she has this effect and has been fired from several households for being "too perfect," but isn't bothered by it.
  • Secretly Wealthy: The woman at the agency reveals Rene's actually extremely wealthy, and is only doing housekeeping until she can legally access her trust fund.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Trudy figures Rene’s saintly personality is too good to be true, that nobody could possibly look good and be good on the inside too. But as it turns out, she's a genuinely nice person with the face to match. Sunset even lampshades that she is an angel.
  • Terrible Interviewees Montage: Like so many other episodes of this premise, the Prouds interview peculiar applicants for the housekeeping position before Rene is hired. These include a prison guard, a guru, a strong man, and a loving woman who’s head spins around while making infectious, if not insane, laughs.
  • Wanting Is Better Than Having: Trudy starts out thinking that she would be less stressed if a nanny could watch over her family for her. But not only does she get paranoid that something bad could happen to them under Rene's care, she also starts to feel outmoded by her. By the end, she appreciates she feels better when she raises her family herself, as stressful as it may be.
