Chapter 51: Curing the Curse

Sasha, Gustav, and Maddie work on curing Uodeela of her curse, but Belos has plans for Sasha.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptation Expansion: We're shown how the Collector developed his mindset about people being like toys from Belos, on account of how indifferent he is to killing Grimwalkers and Sasha's apparent demise.
  • After-Action Healing Drama: Implied. It isn't seen, but Grime, Maddie, Gustav, Emmanuel, Braddock and Percy likely rushed to save Sasha after her suicide attempt.
  • Call-Back: The second cheek scar Sasha got from Anne back in "True Colors (Part 1)" is healed due to the Elixir of Life.
  • The Cameo: Hunter is seen in a tank as Belos prepares to complete his creation and crafts the backstory that will make him his latest 'Golden Guard'.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Elixir of Life comes into play again as Gustav uses it to revive Sasha after her impalement.
  • Demonic Possession: Just as the Red Heron was given the cure, Belos takes possession of Sasha, intending to slaughter Grime and the rest of her comrades just because Maddie and Gustav are magic users. The possession only ends when Sasha kills herself.
  • Disney Death: To get rid of Belos, Sasha stabs herself. Thankfully, Gustav was given an Elixir of Life.
  • Glory Hound: Belos, of course. The bastard is perfectly fine with Andrias' invasion as he believes he can just return to Earth, defeat the mad king, and win humanity's adulation so he can convince them to wipe out witchkind. He clearly doesn't realize or care that the risk of lives lost is far greater from Andrias (not to mention actually possible from him) than the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles.
  • I Owe You My Life: For saving him from "Belasha", Grime pledges his loyalty to Gustav; he immediately tells Grime to pledge it to Uodeela.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: To end Belos' control over her, Sasha shoves her sword through her chest; it works, and she's soon brought back to life.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Sasha never learns anything important about Belos before she ends his influence over her. On the bright side, he thinks she's dead and will have no access to her or be able to obtain the Calamity Box.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Belos namedrops this after Sasha takes her own life to get him out of her head for good.
  • The Reveal: Belos wanted both Luz and Sasha to come to the Boiling Isles: his purpose for the latter was to give Hunter, whose creation is almost complete, a human girlfriend and prevent another grimwalker's betrayal.
  • Running Gag: People confusing elixirs for potions, much to Maddie's annoyance.
  • A Scar to Remember: While the scar Sasha got from Anne on her left cheek heals, she gains one in the shape of a triangle over her original one as well as her right eye, neither of which the Elixir of Life could heal. The latter serves as a permanent reminder of Belos' possession.
  • Sequel Hook: Belos' control over Sasha and threat to Amphibia is over, but he's still going to be trouble should Luz go to the Boiling Isles.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Played for Horror. Belos wanted Sasha to join him as a soldier in order to set up her and Hunter, believing that Caleb's betrayal (and that of every other grimwalker) stems from his brother "being bewitched into falling in love with a witch".
  • The Un-Reveal: Whether or not the elixir cured Uodeela isn't revealed, as Emmanuel says it "sort of worked".
  • Wham Episode: Belos possesses Sasha and she kills herself to end it, severing his influence over her mind and being revived with the Elixir of Life. Belos is left in the dark about this as Hunter's completion draws near, and while Uodeela is fed the elixir to cure her, whether it worked or not is unclear.
