Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 1 E 5 Crystal Clarity

Go To

Flash's confidence with the Omnitrix grow to the point of cockiness, and at the same time Vilgax hires three bounty hunters to retrieve the Omnitrix for him. Flash will need to keep his focus if he wants to survive this latest threat.

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Flash has gotten a lot more cocky with his alien powers due to finally getting to be a hero, to the point it annoys Trixie and Shining Armor, the former even comparing Flash to Rainbow Dash. Flash ends up dropping this attitude at the end when he realizes how fighting without a plan and relying on brute force just got him in more trouble.
  • Adaptational Context Change: This chapter is heavily based on the Ben 10 episode "Hunted", but due to Flash not having Grey Matter, he defeats Kraab and SixSix with Goop instead.
  • Adaptation Expansion: This chapter is heavily based on the Ben 10 episode "Hunted", with a few additions. Most noticeably, the bounty hunters all have their names revealed here, instead of them simply being All There in the Manual, and before Tetrax leaves he informs Flash and his friends about Vilgax, something his canon counterpart neglected to do with Ben.
  • Apology Gift: Flash accidentally destroys Trixie's magazine due to messing around while practicing as Diamondhead. He offers to make it up by taking her to the mall and pay for anything she wants. She takes him up on that offer and milks it for all it's worth, going to the arcade, several clothes and video game stores, and getting smoothies.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When a shoplifter steals something, Flash declares he'll go XLR8 to stop him and slams the watch down. In the next scene, a blue blur stops the thief, but instead of XLR8 it turns out to be Rainbow Dash. It's revealed the watch gave Flash the wrong alien and turned him into Chamalien.
  • Dragged into Drag: When Goop defeats SixSix by smashing him through a clothing store and dragging him into a clothes rack, SixSix gets caught in some girly clothing, with Goop laughing at him over it.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Vilgax hires all three bounty hunters to retrieve the Omnitrix, but they all work independently and end up arguing and clashing with each other as they get in each other's way while trying to get the Omnitrix. Subverted at the end when Tetrax is revealed to be Good All Along, and Kraab and SixSix agree to work together to kill him and Flash and split the reward between themselves.
  • Heroic Rematch: After Flash struggled against Kraab and SixSix in both of his previous encounters with them, he wins the third time as Goop, once he stops trying to fight with brute strength and uses strategy.
  • Internal Reveal: Flash, Trixie, and Shining Armor finally learn the watch that Flash has is called the Omnitrix, and learn from Tetrax that an alien warlord named Vilgax is after it, and is the one targeting Flash to get it.
  • Mistaken for Romance: The Rainbooms notice how Flash and Trixie have been hanging out a lot more often lately, and mistakenly believe they may be dating now.
  • Mythology Gag: The Rainbooms are all wearing their weekend job outfits, as were seen in "Good Vibes".
  • Secret Relationship: The Rainbooms discuss this between Flash and Trixie, with Twilight wondering if they even are keeping it a secret and instead just don't feel the need to announce it. Though it is ultimately defied, since there is no relationship between them and the Rainbooms are simply mistaking them hanging out as dating.
  • Seen It All: Kraab isn't the least bit surprised to see several humans with magical abilities.
  • Written-In Absence: Pinkie and Rarity are the only two Rainbooms that do not appear, with it being explained to be because their jobs are outside the mall.
