Tropes

  • The Cameo: Jim Carrey appears as interviewee the "Finger Lakes guy".
  • Cameo Cluster: Most of the interviewees from Part 1, as well as Jim Carrey from this episode, return at the end of the episode for final thoughts in the building reception area.
  • Celebrity Paradox: Jim Carrey plays a character on the show after multiple episodes of Michael making references to Carrey's films like Ace Ventura and Phllyis at one time pranking him by saying Jim Carrey had just walked into the room on a tape recorder.
  • Cloud Cuckoolanders Minder: Pam takes it upon herself to keep Creed distracted with brainteasers and pretending to talk to him as the company's clients when he tries calling them up to tell them the branch is closing.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Darryl brings in his daughter Jada who talks about what a great dad he is in hopes of buttering the committee up, only to realize how terrible it looks when Jim gives him a disapproving head-shake.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gabe's arrogance and hostility towards Andy after breaking up with Erin finally comes back to bite him when Kelly, after being dismissed from interviewing by him, blabs to Jo about his relationship with Erin and his recent spiraling behavior. When Jo gets him to admit that his comments towards Andy were biased out of spite, she scolds him for getting too involved with people and sends him back to Florida.
  • No Name Given: Jim Carrey's character is never given a name, with Jim just referring to him as the "Finger Lakes guy" because of how much he kept talking about the Finger Lakes.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jim becomes flabbergasted that the rest of the committee is on-board to let Dwight be manager, especially when Dwight and Kelly start going mad with their assumed power and pre-fire Phyllis.
  • Pet the Dog: Phyllis found out Erin isn't the foster child she gave up, but decides to not tell her right away and keep being motherly towards her after Andy rejects her.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: As Jo is leaving, she tells Jim to go ahead and give Dwight an interview, because she "likes a little crazy".
  • Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Erin decides that she might be in love with Andy and asks him on a date... only for him to decline, because he considers her a friend at this point and is still bitter about Gabe.
