This episode contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: He went through being Raised as the Opposite Gender for an unknown length of time.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Invoked when discussing Artie, "the strongest man.... in the world", from Pete and Pete:
    Critic: Is Artie, um, special??
  • Call-Back: To "Adventure Ho!", used in the previous review. But The Critic immediately realizes he accidentally called Clarissa a "ho" and said the phrase wasn't very nice in this context.
  • Jeopardy! Thinking Music: Plays when the Critic guesses the genders of some of the kids on You Can't Do That on Television.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: When reviewing Hey Dude!, the Critic is annoyed that there isn't action in the show. When the characters announce that they have to round up horses and fix a gate, the Critic gets excited that he'll finally see some action. But it turns out all the action happens off-screen, and joins the characters after they've already finished.
Critic: Hey! HEEEEEYYYY! That was one horse, and we didn't even see you get it! Good God, you get more of the Wild West by listening to Slim Whitman, for crying out loud!
  • Too Much Information:
Bobby: I tell a ghost story and you buy it hook, line and stinker, I just cut one.
    Critic: ...Thanks for sharing.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Invoked; the Critic is thoroughly confused about the gender of some of the kids in You Can't Do That on Television.
