"Harold, you better get this carriage out of the mud!"

In a storybook land, Peter must rescue the beautiful Princess Gwen from her scheming fiancé.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Amulet of Concentrated Awesome: Princess Gwen gives Peter one of these at the start. It houses a fairy with a heavy New York accent, protects him from being harmed by the bad guys' swords, and grants him extreme strength in arm wrestling matches.
  • Anachronism Stew: In this version of medieval Europe, one can collect unemployment checks and order out for sandwiches. Princess Gwen also makes ample use of the words "hip" and "groovy".
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When Peter proposes to Princess Gwen, she rejects him by removing her wig and saying "I can't marry you, I got Phyllis and Christian, remember?" in reference to Nesmith's real life wife and son at the time.
  • …But He Sounds Handsome: Mike plays both himself and Princess Gwen in this episode. Every time the latter is discussed in the presence of the former, Mike starts talking excitedly about how that's the "grooviest looking chick [he] ever saw" until one of the other characters shuts him up.
  • Cross-Cast Role: Princess Gwen is played by Michael Nesmith.
  • Damsel in Distress: Played for Laughs as Gwen is a bit of a Jerkass.
  • Hard-Work Montage: Davy, Micky, and Mike get one of these when they forge armor and weapons for Peter. Meanwhile, Peter collects unemployment.
  • Medium Awareness: Peter is already familiar with the stories of the fairy tale characters he comes across on his journey, and tries to warn them about how their stories will end.
  • Narrator: The herald who introduces Mike, Davy, Micky, and Peter and provides commentary and exposition throughout the episode.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: The dragon that guards Princess Gwen's tower is a Chinese-style dragon rather than the Europeon-style dragon that would be expected in such a fairy tale.
  • Stock Footage: (Played for Laughs) Stock footage of the Empire State building is used for the tower the princess is trapped in and the fight scene is randomly interspersed with shots from some higher-budget medieval themed production.
