Recap / The Mighty Ducks Game Changers S 1 E 7 Pond Hockey

Go To

With the team mad at Evan, and Alex unsure of her coaching skills, Bombay brings them somewhere new.

Tropes:

  • 30-Second Blackout: The power goes out at the Ice Palace, forcing the team to find another place to practice and work out their issues with Evan's betrayal. Fortunately, Gordon knows a place.
  • Call-Back: Gordon once again has the kids do the soft hands passing drill, only this time he has them use their cell phones instead of eggs.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Sam is the focus of this episode's B-Plot, as he takes Evan's actions in the previous episode the hardest and loses his desire to crash into things.
  • Easily Forgiven: With the exception of Sofi and Sam, the team forgives Evan after he relinquishes the “C” from his jersey. By the end of the episode, Evan is able to get Sam excited about crashing into things again, and also repairs his relationship with Sofi.
  • Gratuitous Latin: Spoken by Sofi while still upset with Evan.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Alex stops attending practice feeling that she's not needed with Gordon's increasing presence, it's actually Stephanie who points out that Alex was their coach first and that she needs to step out of her comfort zone and return to the team.
  • Locked in a Room: Reeling from the fallout of Evan's betrayal, Alex locks the team in their locker room to work it out, only to have it escalate into an all out airing of grievances between each other.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Alex forces the team to have a players only meeting so they can work through their anger with Evan. The meeting then spirals out of control when everyone starts bringing up their other personal problems with each other.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Alex's attempt to use Wax On, Wax Off training by having the kids skate blindfolded ends disastrously as the kids just trip and crash into each other.
    • Subverted by episode’s end, where the team uses closed eyes as Confusion Fu, scoring a game-winning goal.
  • Technology Marches On: In-Universe. Gordon has the kids use their cell phones for the passing drill because he knows they'll be more concerned about breaking those than eggs.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Thanks to Gordon's coaching, Koob finally learns how to block pucks with his legs.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: The discussion about the final "blindfolded" play isn't shown... and the play works.
