Recap / The Mask S 2 E 7 Mask Au Gratin

Go To

Mrs. Peenman's niece, Jennifer, comes to town and it's Stanley's job to make sure that Jennifer sees all the sights of Edge City. But things get complicated when Jennifer shows Stanley an amulet she took from the tomb of Gorgonzola, a priestess who had the power to turn anything (and anyone) into cheese and the curse turns Jennifer into Gorgonzola.

Tropes:

  • Mama Bear: Mrs Peenman loves her niece very much and does not trust anyone in Edge City so she tells Stanley to go with her which she shows him her shotgun so that he knows if he tries anything funny with her which is unlikely considering what a Nice Guy he is, he will have to deal with her wrath.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite Mrs Peenman being a Cranky Landlady she's willing to overlook Stanley missing the rent for 5 days, if Stanley takes her niece out to see all the sights of Edge City which considering what a Jerkass she is to him, it is the nicest thing she's done for him.
  • Shipper on Deck : Mrs Peenman sort of. When she blackmails Stan to give her niece Jennifer a tour otherwise he will be evicted, Stan is reluctant at first thinking her niece is just like his landlady. Turns out Jennifer is an attractive young woman and it is implied the pair fall in love at first sight. Mrs Peenman even knows Jennifer seems to like him.
  • Taken for Granite: Gorgonzola has the power to turn everyone and everything into cheese including The Mask as well though he does get himself back to normal of course.
  • Tempting Fate: When Jennifer explains the curse of the amulet will cause the one who removes it from Gorgonzola's tomb to undergo a transformation, Stanley points out that she was the one who removed it. Jennifer laughs, dismissing the whole thing as "silly superstition". Unbeknownst to her, though, she's talking to someone who's experienced a transformation caused by a cursed object firsthand.
  • Troll: The Mask as always does this to annoy Gorgonzola even turning himself into her to mock her which he even admits that must be pretty annoying but he tells her what's more annoying that he shows her by moving his mouth and making a funny noise with it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Mask as always changes his appearance which he turns into a minstrel, Albert Einstein, as queen Gorgonzola herself, a old fashioned photographer, a superhero in a yellow suit, a gridiron player, a cowboy with ten gallon, a flight attendant and a little boy in a blue shirt.
