Recap / The Mask S 2 E 21 Cool Hand Mask

Go To

The Mask is finally put behind bars - but this time, he's innocent. It seems that Pretorius framed The Mask for robbing a Little League team, and, with The Mask incarcerated, Pretorius finally puts his evil plans to rule Edge City by tampering with Edge City's electrical devices.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: The Mask appears entirely in this episode with Stanley not appearing in this one and it shows The Mask's positive traits such as being friendly to children and never robbing those who need the money to help them go through hard times.
  • Artistic License – Law: Even though the Mask was proven innocent the whole time, he still committed a serious crime by breaking out of prison.
  • Friend to All Children: The Mask is friendly to children because that some of them are trolls like him and when he hears that people say he was the one who robbed the Little League team, he does actually wonder if he did do it so starting to think he might have gone a lot more crazy than usual he decides to let himself be arrested and sent to prison because of it but however when he finds out that it was Pretorius who did it, he frees himself from prison relief that he was not the one who did it.
  • Hated by All: The Mask, after being framed for robbing the Little League, becomes hated by everyone. Even the children who are in the arcade with him decide to leave when he comes there, thinking he’s the one who did it. Only one kid stays behind to tell The Mask he should be ashamed of himself for what he did; thankfully, at the end, everyone comes to love him again after the truth is revealed to them.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The Mask becomes this after being framed for robbing the Little League team and while it is true that The Mask is a genuine troublemaker, wedgies anyone who annoy him and a maniac but he is a good hearted man who will never rob anyone who needs the money they need to help them go through hard times, The Mask then has to deal with anyone who hates him because they think he's the one who did it which even The Mask starts to think that he is the one who did it so he lets himself be put in prison so that he does not do that again but however he finds out he was not the one who did it but Pretorius so he frees himself, stops Pretorius's plan then exposes him to be the one who did it, his reputation is restored and everyone loves him once more.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Mask is shocked that the news say he was the one who robbed the Little League team and though he denies it at first, he starts to doubt himself and becoming worry of the fact that he is the one who robbed them so he lets himself go to prison so that he does not steal from anyone or hurt them, only freeing himself when he finds out that it was Pretorius who did it not him so he frees himself and stops him no longer have to worry about himself now.
  • The Man in the Mirror Talks Back: The Mask after being framed for robbing the Little League starts to doubt his own innocence and he tells his reflection that he didn't do it but his reflection tells him that he may have started to have another spilt personality which The Mask at first denies it but he does start to think that he may have one that does not have morals unlike him so that was one of the reasons he let himself be put in prison so it does not try to do something like that.
  • Split Personality: Discussed and Subverted The Mask thinks he did not do it but his reflection tells him that he may have another spilt personality who started to rob innocent people and possibly willing to hurt people which The Mask denies at first but however he does start to believe that he may have one so he puts himself in prison because of his fear that he started to have another one, but however later on he finds out it was Pretorius who did it not another spilt personality so The Mask frees himself from prison no longer having to keep himself locked up because of his fear that there's another spilt personality who is like those other evil mask personas.
  • Tears of Fear: Pretorius does this when he is trapped behind bars the Mask installs on a broken computer monitor. And despite being distressed it is very likely he will be serving time for a long time for the crimes he committed.
