- Food as Bribe: Florence will give Dougal a bone as a reward if he delivers her piano to Ermintrude.
- Foreshadowing: When Dougal and Brian take Florence's piano to Ermintrude, she says to Zebedee that she will miss that piano, and he replies that one day it might come rolling back to her. The piano does just that when Dougal and Brian delivered it in Ermintrude's tower and Florence realises that this was all Zebedee's doing.
- Rule of Three: Florence's piano rolls its way from Ermintrude's tower back to her house thrice.
