In a land of ice and snow, Jake and Cassandra are tasked with retrieving an ancient crystal. However, they encounter numerous problems; aside from a mysterious assailant, and Cassandra getting the crystal stuck in her chest, there's a magical storm that traps the duo in a lodge hosting a reunion of disguised Frost Giants that want to devour the crystal's magic.
Meanwhile, back at the Library, Eve attempts to teach Ezekiel some responsibility by having him take care of the Loch Ness Monster's egg when the incubator breaks.
Tropes:
- Affably Evil: The frost giants are for the most part a pretty fun group if a bit overly boisterous. Jake and Cass even manage to make friends, but that doesn't help them much after they are found out.
- Faux Horrific: When the Frost Trolls are comparing their favourite disasters, such as Cholera and the housing bubble burst, Jake's answer of "Global Warming" is seen as heinous.
- Spot the Imposter: The Frost Trolls do this when the real Finkelstein arrives, as Jake had been using his name to avoid suspicion. Interestingly enough, Jake manages to hold his own for a few questions, using what he heard at the reunion and his own knowledge to bluff his way through them, while the real Finkelstein can be forgetful. Jake finally fails the question about how long he and another Frost Giant been friends. It turns out that that Frost Giant and Finkelstein were never friends.
- Spotting the Thread: Jake realizes that Finkelstein was the assailant from the beginning because of the way he fights. Specifically, he has a poor left hook.
