Recap / The Legend Of Zelda 1989 E 11 Fairies In The Spring

Go To

It's a hot summer day, and the construction of the water park is nearly finished. However, the crew assigned to built it were scared off by some monsters made of water, so Link and Zelda go to investigate. Unfortunately, when King Harkinian arrives to overlook the situation himself, he gets pulled underwater by a monster and he's nowhere to be found inside the pool he disappeared in, forcing the heroes to not only find a way to stop the monsters, but also find Zelda's father.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Distressed Dude: King Harkinian is kidnapped by monsters made of water, and pulled through the water park's drainage system.
  • Heat Wave: It's an explicitly summer episode where the characters are trying to deal with the heat, and the construction of a water park to be built for everyone to cool off is almost finished up until the monsters showed up.
  • Murder Water: Downplayed because water monsters aren't out to kill anyone in particular, though they do pose a serious and harmful threat to the heroes and are eventually revealed to be a creation of fairy magic.
  • Old-Timey Bathing Suit: Zigzagged. Link and King Harkinian are wearing the typical old striped swimsuits, a pretty jarring sight for a medieval-themed Hyrule. Zelda, on the other hand, wears a more modern pink one-piece suit and similar outfits can be seen on other Hylians at the water park.
  • Spoiler Title: Even if you couldn't guess what was behind the monsters from the episode's title, "Fairies in the Spring" gives away what's in the pond area that Link and Zelda find after traveling through the water park's drainage system.
