Recap / The Interns S 4 E 14

Go To

Kisegach receives flowers, and instantly thinks that they are from Bykov. She orders her secretary Vera to return them to Bykov... except, Bykov has no relation to this, and gets completely surprised. She's unaware that those comes from entirely different man.

Varya's new patient is an erotic novelist. He has little time left until deadline, but has one arm broken, and thus barely can type. He tries to ask for help, but Varya is too squicked, and Lobanov is too dumb; then Lyuba offers her help, only to start making her own suggestions, and ultimately decide to try to write something by herself.

Somebody always steals Phil's food; the main suspect is Lobanov. Gleb suggests to stuff Semyon's food with laxatives. But then turns out that the thief was actually Bykov, who takes Lobanov's stuffed food. However, he suffers no ill effects... because he overheard their plan, and put those laxatives into tea. As result, the laxatives hits not only Semyon, but also Gleb... and Varya, who accidentally drink it too.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Laxative Prank: To take revenge on Lobanov for stealing his food, Phil (following Gleb's advice) decides to stuff his food with laxatives. Unfortunately, it was not Lobanov who steals his food... but Bykov. And now Bykov stole Lobanov's food. But in truth, Bykov have learned from Phil that he was planning to poison Lobanov, and used laxatives to poison Gleb's and Semyon's tea instead, as a punishment (Gleb — specifically for not warning anyone). He also accidentally poisoned Varya, but he at least apologises to her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Subverted with Bykov. While he seemingly gets poisoned with laxatives due to stealing Semyon's food, it doesn't work, cause he knew about the prank and put the laxatives elsewhere.
    • When Bykov puts the laxatives into tea, he points that Gleb was poisoned specifically for not warning neither his friend nor his boss about the Laxative Prank. It also poisons Semyon and Varya, but if Semyon had it coming, Bykov apologises before Varya, as she's accidental collateral damage.
  • Mills and Boon Prose: Varya's new patient is an erotic novelist named Gennadiy (who works under a pen name "Vera Rayskaya"), with rather... interesting descriptions. Unfortunately, he broke his arm, and can't finish his latest book before deadline by himself. Varya offers her help, but she is too squicked by what he writes; she outright calls his work "pornography" and him "a pervert". Then he asks Lobanov, who doesn't care as long as he would get paid... but he does a terrible job because his grammar skills are so bad, he makes countless mistakes, to Gennadiy's annoyance. Last one to offer her help is Lyuba (who's "Vera's" fan)... who turns out to be even weirder than him, and even starts suggesting new ideas. After that, Lyuba realises that she can as well become a novelist herself, under a pen name Lyubov Obilnaya.
  • Moustache de Plume: Erotic novelist Gennadiy works under a pen name "Vera Rayskaya".
  • Punny Name:
    • Gennadiy's pen name is "Vera Rayskaya". "Vera" is, besides being female name, is also Russian for "faith", while "Ray" means "heaven" or "paradise". Gennadiy writes escapist erotic novels for lonely women.
    • When Lyuba decides to become a novelist herself, she choses the pen name "Lyubov Obilnaya". "Lyubov" is both the female name and Russian for "love", while "obilniy" or "obilnaya" means "plentiful"... but can also refer to Lyuba being a Big Beautiful Woman.
  • Sustained Misunderstanding: Every time Kisegach receives new gifts, she think that they are from Bykov, and orders Vera to "return" them to him. Bykov (who's not related to them at all) thinks that those are gifts from her, and spends a whole episode trying to figure out the "secret message"; eventually, he comes to conclusion that he accidentally "broke" Kisegach by his past actions.
