Recap / The Interns S 3 E 8

Go To

Levin has a bet with Lobanov and Romanenko about Bykov congratulating him until the end of day; whoever loses, would be kicked by the winners. In order to win, Levin must show an audio recording. Meanwhile, Varya still has feelings for Bykov, and can't even think straight near him; even listening to a recording of his voice has a hypnotic effect on her. This leads to her wasting a whole day, before she finally manages to do her task.

Gleb is interested in Lobanov's patient, and asks him for "permission" to flirt with her. What Semyon didn't mention, is that she's much taller than either of them. Despite initial shock, now it's a matter of honour to not give up and "win" her anyway. Honour, and some money, since he had a bet with Semyon about that. After she rejects Gleb (because of height difference), Lobanov decides to help him and arrange everything by himself. Or, rather, it was Gleb who provoked him into doing this.

All Levin's attempts to record Bykov congratulating him goes to waste due to Bykov always either being in bad mood, or acting mean. Ultimately, he manages to make a recording, but it gets ruined when Varya accidentally breaks the voice recorder (which she used to record Bykov's voice, so she can listen to it), resulting in a record of Bykov angrily screaming being played on a loop — of which Levin only learns when he goes to show the recording to Gleb and Semyon.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Aroused by Their Voice: Varya still has feelings for Bykov, and when she hears his voice, she falls into deep trance; even a recording of him angrily screaming on her has that effect on her.
  • The Bet:
    • Levin has a bet with Lobanov and Romanenko: if Bykov would congratulate him on work well done, then Levin can kick their asses; if not, then they would kick his. Unfortunately, every time he either manages to anger him, or Bykov just acts like a jerk. And when Levin finally manages to record Bykov complimenting him, Varya accidentally ruins this by overwriting it with Bykov screaming on her and then braking recorder, which makes it playing on a loop.
    • Gleb has a bet with Semyon over Lobanov's tall patient, wether Gleb actually can hit on her despite major height difference.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: Varya still has feelings to Bykov. She can't even think straight near him.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Varya used Levin's voice recorder to record Bykov's voice, then broke it by constantly replaying this record over and over, which leads to it getting stuck. In the end, when Levin attempts to play a record of Bykov complimenting him to Gleb and Semyon, they hears only insults.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Varya can't think straight (or even understand instructions) near Bykov, because she still has unrequited feelings to him. This is a problem, since she has a task from Bykov, but can't remember what it is, even after asking him again. Lyuba gives her Levin's audio recorder, so she can record Bykov and check it later. This still fails, because despite the record being him screaming on Varya, she falls into trance by his voice anyway. Of course, Bykov leaves he on a night shift (and trolls her when she finally bring him diagnosis for her patient, by pretending to not hearing her).
  • Manipulative Bastard: Gleb fakes him being hurt by patient rejecting him to provoke Lobanov into helping him.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Lobanov's patient is much taller than either Semyon or Gleb. Of course, he didn't mention this when Gleb asked him for "permission" to flirt with her. Gleb, too proud to give up, decides to try and hit on her anyway, but she rejects him, because he is too short for her, and they would look awkward together. Lobanov decides to help him and arrange their date by himself (even at the cost of the money he just won from Gleb), though later it turns out that it was Gleb who manipulated him into doing so.
