Recap / The Interns S 3 E 11

Go To

Lobanov decides to avoid doing work by pretending to break his leg. This almost fools Bykov... but then Kupitman tells him about a traumatologist whom Semyon bribed. Now Bykov wants to provoke Lobanov into revealing himself; if it fails, he would just fire him.

Varya's patient speaks only English (which Varya doesn't understand), and he is in love with her. To force him to leave her alone, she asks Gleb to act as a translator for her patient; unfortunately, Gleb learns that the patient is in love with Varya, and decides to sabotage his advances, because he still can't forget their relationship. Unfortunately, Varya learns about this and gets very angry: now, she must redo everything from scratch, because Gleb faked all patient's symptoms and she has no useable data to work with.

Bykov interrupts Varya's conflict with Gleb to say that he needs help with forcing Lobanov to reveal his lie. Together, they succeed, but then Lobanov accidentally breaks his leg for real.

This episode provides examples of:

  • The Alcoholic: Traumatologist whom Lobanov bribed to help with his "broken" leg is a known drunkard; this is how Kupitman learns about Semyon's plan and tells Bykov.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Gleb still can't forget Varya. When she asks him to be a translator for her English-speaking patient, and Gleb learns that the patient is in love with Varya, he decides to sabotage his advances — at the cost of actually allowing Varya to do her work. When Varya learns that because of Gleb, she had wasted a whole day instead of treating her patient, she gets angry; she attempts to force Gleb to do everything by himself, but Bykov busts them before they do anything.
  • Fakeā€“Real Turn: Bykov's plan of provoking Lobanov into revealing that he's faking his leg being broken results in Semyon running out of on-call room... and breaking his leg for real.
  • Out of Focus: Levin has no major role in this episode, and only appears when Bykov summons interns to deal with Lobanov.
  • Language Barrier: Varya's patient speaks only English (which Varya doesn't understand). This leads to him mistaking the word "Kopetz"note  for her name. Varya asks Gleb to act as a translator, but he decides to sabotage patient's advances, our of jealousy.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Semyon's attempts to avoid doing work by pretending that he'd broken his leg starts the chain of events which ends with him actually breaking his leg.
  • Playing Sick: Lobanov pretends to break his leg, so he wouldn't be forced to work. This almost works, since Lobanov actually did prepare for Bykov's questions to make it plausible, but then Kupitman reveals to Bykov that the traumatologist was bribed by Semyon. Bykov now wants to provoke Lobanov into revealing himself, since just telling him outright would be "too easy".
  • Translator Buddy: Gleb acts as a translator for Varya's English-speaking patient. Unfortunately, once he learns that the patient is in love with Varya, he decides to sabotage his advances, not really caring that it prevents Varya from doing her task.
