Recap / The Inbetweeners S 3 E 5 Home Alone

Go To

Will's mum is away for a weekend with old schoolfriend, Fergus. With Will left home alone, the other boys take full advantage of the situation.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Jay unwittingly condemns his dog to death when his attempts to get him locked in the backyard results in his dad thinking that the dog can't be disciplined.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Jay's dad has Benji put down when he believes he pooped in the house. But the way he phrased his message to text, saying it's basically the end for them if they do that anyway, makes it fairly apparent he only did it because he didn't want to deal with a non-housebroken dog.
  • Caught with Your Pants Down: Jay's dog walks in on him masturbating, which apparently makes him too uncomfortable to continue.
  • Fun with Acronyms:
Jay: You know what golf stands for?
    Simon: No, what?
Jay: Gay outdoor lifestyle with fellas.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Jay falsely claims that Benji pooped in the house so that he can masturbate in peace, knowing that his dad usually disciplines the dog by locking him in the backyard. Instead, his dad interprets the claim as a sign that Benji can't be housebroken and has him euthanized instead.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Neil and Jay are surprisingly artistic, if crude in their rearranging of some flowers from "Welcome to our village" to "We cum tit village".
    • Simon is good enough at golf to make it to the championship round of a father-son tournament.
  • Ill Fated Flower Bed: The boys take up the sport of destroying daffodils with a golf club, and repeatedly vandalize a particular flowerbed in the neighborhood. Will is skeptical at first but eventually joins in the fun, but the owner of the flowerbed catches on, figures out where they live, and stands outside screaming at them threateningly, trapping them inside for hours as they pretend not to be home.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • More or less Jay's reaction when he hears that his dad's had his dog put down after believing his lies about it crapping indoors. To make matters worse, all he wanted to do was get it out of the way for a bit so he could have some...time to himself.
    • Simon is aghast that he's cost his father the golf tournament due to his binge-drinking.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: You know that Jay is upset about his dog being put down when he declares he'll never wank again.
  • Place Worse Than Death: Mr Gilbert threatens to sabotage Will's university prospects so that it's "Goodbye first-rate education, hello University of Lincoln."
Will: Now this was serious. I've been to Lincoln, and it's a shithole.
  • Take That!: "You've got until Monday to find out, otherwise it's goodbye first rate education, hello University of Lincoln." Ouch.
