"Night of the Living Grim"

Original Air Date: June 20, 2003

Mandy's hanging out at Billy's house, reading a magazine on the couch, while Billy's playing a video game called "Attack of the Non-Toxic Edible Green Slime," where the hero's catchphrase is "It's time to eat some slime." Billy sees some green slime floating in the air and attempts to eat it, but fails. Mandy hears some sneezing coming from one of the bedrooms at Billy's house, and it turns out that the green slime is coming from Grim, who's lying in bed sick.

Mandy tells Billy to clean up all the slime while she looks in one of Grim's books to find out what he's sick with; Billy cleans up the slime by sucking it up in his vacuum cleaner. After reading one of Grim's books, Mandy finds out that Grim's sick with "Encroaching Doom Syndrome." Mandy says the book explains that they've got one of two options: either go to the Underworld Hospital or have Grim stay home and simply hope he gets better. Grim doesn't want to see a doctor, but he, Mandy and Billy end up going to the Underworld Hospital anyway.

While in the waiting room at the Underworld Hospital, Mandy begins to think that Grim's sickness might not be that bad, as she feels a lot of the other patients look way worse than he does. However, when the other patients realize that Grim has Encroaching Doom Syndrome, they all run away, proving her wrong. The doctors whisk Grim away to the operating room, but they aren't able to help him, and Grim, much to everyone's shock, becomes a human (Billy even faints from this).

Once they get back to Billy's house, Billy and Mandy point out to Grim that he's naked, and Billy lends Grim some of his clothes (which are too small on Grim). The three go to the Endsville Mall, where Grim starts complaining about his human form (Mandy ends up calling his human form "France"). However, he starts to like his human form when he sees that the women in Endsville find him attractive. But this quickly wears off when it incurs the wrath of jealous boyfriends and husbands, and leads to them beating up Grim.

At the end of the episode, Grim's complaining about how much he hates being a human, when he gets eaten by the slime monster Billy vacuumed up at the beginning of the episode (Billy calls the monster "Slimey"). After Slimey spits Grim out, Grim's back to his normal skeleton form. Billy tries it too, but it doesn't work on him.

"Night of the Living Grim" contains examples of…

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Grim near the end of the episode when he complains about his situation.
Grim: I hate being mortal. I have no powers, I get beat up every two minutes, I have to go to the bathroom all the time…
  • Big "WHAT?!": Grim has this reaction upon learning that he’s alive. This then turns into a Defensive "What?" when he sees everyone staring at him in shock.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The green slime that Grim was sneezing up at the beginning of the episode turns into a slime monster and Billy vacuums it up before it can attack him. When Grim kicks the vacuum in a fit of frustration, the slime monster escapes and eats him, but this winds up turning him back to normal.
  • Chick Magnet: Grim seems to become this after he turns human. At first, he doesn’t mind having positive attention for a change... but all the ladies’ significant others certainly do. He gets two black eyes before the end of the episode as a result.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After Grim becomes human and the trio return to the living world, this exchange happens.
    Billy: Uh, Grim…?
Grim: I know, Billy, I know... I have skin.
Mandy: No, Grim. What Billy’s trying to say is… you’re naked.
  • The Death of Death: Grim ends up becoming sick with Encroaching Doom Syndrome, so he is brought to the Underworld Hospital. However, the doctors are unable to save him, and he ends up passing away... in that he is now a living human being.
  • Faint in Shock: Billy’s reaction upon seeing Grim as a human is to faint.
  • Humanity Ensues: Grim as a result of becoming alive.
  • Shout-Out: The title of the episode is a reference to Night of the Living Dead.
  • Tempting Fate: Inverted. When Grim complains about being human, he ends it with “What else can possibly go wrong?!” Cue the slime monster from earlier in the episode eating him. But this actually turns out to be a good thing, as it turns him back into a skeleton again.

"Brown Evil"

Original Air Date: June 20, 2003

At Billy's residence, Billy plays his video game, Pat the Baker, but is interrupted by Mandy, who explains that Pat the Baker is idiotic. She shatters the game and inputs a new game, President Evil starring Hoss Delgado. Mandy then zones off into the video game and becomes addicted as Billy watches, who is unimpressed. Billy states that the game is for girls and Mandy grows exasperated and insist that Billy goes to make brownies like Pat the Baker. Billy makes a dreadfully revolting mess in the kitchen and mimics Pats every move he has seen in the video game. After tasting a tad of chocolate, Billy realizes that he needs more salt and that he is out of it.

Billy wanders into Grim's old trunk in search for salt but instead finds his Evil Powder, and uses that as a substitute. Billy puts the brownies in the oven and the repulsive aroma gets the attention of Mandy and Grim. As Mandy prepares to throw out the brownies, Grim snatches the tray of brownies and discreetly heads outside to eat them but is caught by Mandy. Grim dumps the tray into the garbage and slips some of the brownies inside of his head, literally. However, the aroma creeps its way to the Endsville Cemetery and resurrects the deceased. The Zombies then find their way to Billy's residence to undercover the smell. The three look outside the house and see an assembly of Zeds ransacking the outside of the house. They send Billy out to rid of them, stating that he has no brain.

The news then reports that everything that was once lifeless has resurrected and that the aroma has spread worldwide due to the Evil Powder. When Billy starts to gain self-assurance in him, he is saved by Hoss Delgado, who is confused with Pat the Baker by Billy. Hoss slaughters numerous zombies, and Billy strikes them while they are already dead. After seeing that the zombies are restoring back to life, the group see that the zombie's main objective was the brownies, which were in Grim's skull. Hoss and Grim fight, and Grim seems to have the upper hand after he cuts off Hoss’s mechanical one. Hoss gets a punch in with his normal hand, though, knocking off Grim’s head and sending it crashing out the window, which the zombie amalgamation grabs and eats the brownies in his skull. After the zombies are defeated, Billy and Hoss play Pat the Baker together, and it’s revealed the zombie chicken that had grenade before is still alive.

"Brown Evil" contains examples of…

  • Literal Metaphor: This happens when Mandy and Hoss deduce that the zombies aren’t after brains, but something else, and the latter follows the smell of the brownies that Grim stashed.
Hoss: It's all in his head!
Mandy: You mean Grim's imagining all of this?
Hoss: No, whatever those zombies are after is in his head!
(The top of Grim’s skull pops open to reveal…)
    Mandy: Brownies!
  • President Evil: The video game Mandy plays is one of the Trope Namers.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Your Brain Won't Be Much of a Meal: Mandy and Grim think brains are what the zombies are after, which is the reason they send Billy out to fight the zombies.
