Go To

"Mr. Terrific" is an episode in the third season of The Golden Girls.

Rose must persuade a kids' TV show host not to kill himself after he is fired. Blanche orders a new bed but ends up getting one that's more expensive than the one she ordered.

Tropes:

  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Either this or Tempting Fate. Late in the episode, Dorothy pleads to Mr. Terrific, who appears to prepare to jump off a building, to go back inside and have his job back. Mr. Terrific claims that the public won't make him jump... only for the spectators on the ground to chant "Jump! Jump! Jump!" repeatedly.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: While working a side job in the studio Mr. Terrific works in, Dorothy makes a list of changes for the show to the studio executives, who fires Mr. Terrific when he refuses to comply.
  • Replacement Scrappy: In-Universe example. Dorothy attempts to fulfill Mr. Terrific's role after he gets fired, but her performance on TV ends with backlash from Mr. Terrific's then-coworkers who get fed up with her within MINUTES, which prompts her to try to help Mr. Terrific to get his old job back.
  • Robin Hoodlum: According to Sophia, Benito the Hood, who's the Sicilian version of Robin Hood, is not chivalrous at all due to hoarding all the wealth he accrues.
Sophia: He didn't even share them with the Merry Men.
  • Shout-Out: When Dorothy is working on the kids' show, Mr. Terrific has a puppet sidekick named Kolack from Twilar. This is very likely a shout-out to Danny Thomas, who appeared on a The Dick Van Dyke Show episode ('It May Look Like a Walnut') as "Kolack from Twilo." Tony Thomas, one-third of the production team, is Danny Thomas's son.
