Go To

A Plot: Beverly convinces Murray to get a hot tub to spark romance and spend time together.

B Plot: Geoff decides to try out a new look for himself, which is not well-received by Barry.

  • Breaking the Fellowship: Barry's worried that the JTP pursuing separate interests will lead to this, and brings up how Matt Bradley has already left (though the others mention that he's just busy).
  • Double Date: When Beverly gets to actually play Pictionary with Murray, she invites Bill and his new wife Delores to play against. Adam and his girlfriend Brea are also present.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: The episode starts with Beverly trying to pressure her kids to play Pictionary with her. Erica says she and Geoff are busy, Geoff agrees with her, Barry decides to honestly state that he has no plans but doesn't want to play, and Adam uses this trope by telling her he prefers to let people down gently with a lie right before saying he needs to spend the rest of the day washing his hair.
  • Loophole Abuse: After being pressured by Beverly to get a hot tub so they can spend time together, Murray puts it in the basement instead of outside, so he can watch TV while Beverly soaks. Of course, this just ends up with Beverly angry at him, forcing Adam to spend time with her instead, and Adam doing his best to help repair the relationship so it doesn't continue.
  • Makeover Montage: Done when Barry asks Erica to give him a bad makeover to show the JTP how lame their own outfits are. She gives him a series of ridiculous outfits, but Barry thinks they're too cool; it's only when she gives him a stylish preppy ensemble that he's convinced he's lame enough.
  • Playing Pictionary: Beverly becomes obsessed with Pictionary and eventually convinces Murray to play with her against Bill and Delores. Neither she nor Murray are good at drawing, yet they know each other so well they are able to guess correctly what their random scribbles mean; by contrast, Bill and Delores get in an argument when he tries to guess before she's even finished laying down her first line.
  • Poor Communication Kills: While Beverly is Talking with Signs to get the family to play Pictionary with her, she nearly convinces Geoff that his parents are getting a divorce because their hearts were broken, but it turns out that one of her relatives was just undergoing heart surgery.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Geoff tells Erica to look at the hat, she thinks he means the mannequin next to it and tells him that it's not going to come to life like in Mannequin.
    • Among the outfits Erica tries on Barry are Boss Hogg note  and the oversized suit worn by David Byrne in Stop Making Sense.
  • Talking with Signs: To try and convince the family to play Pictionary, Beverly starts making every conversation into a game, forcing the others to guess what she's drawing. When she asks Murray to play with Bill, he draws his answer in the drawing pad: NO.
  • This Is Going to Be Huge: When Erica decides to support Geoff buying a hat he's interested in.
"This is the 80's; people are going to look back on our fashion and say, 'they got it right'!"
