Recap / The Feathered Serpent: Part One

Go To

Jim Hawkins’ life is not going the way he thought it would. He’s just turned forty, and he’s working an all right job and dealing with the death of his wife, while now trying to raise three teenage kids. On top of that, his best friend and sister decided to go back to Nephite times after Renae’s death and have yet to return three years later, though they said they’d be gone only one, and time goes faster in Nephite times!

But things are about to get worse (or better?). Jim is unexpectedly framed for murder of his shady boss, and is thrown in prison to await trial. At the same time, his children find themselves followed and his oldest daughter Melody is kidnapped by someone from Jim’s past - Boaz, one of the Gadianton men from the last book who now goes by Jacob Moon.

Jim finds himself freed by a mysterious Nephite and goes into the past to find his daughter, his kids accompanying him. While they face many dangers, they eventually reach Zarahemla and discover Jenny living with its Christian settlement, along with the two children she’s successfully had. But Garth is missing; having been kidnapped by Jacob while on a mission for the Nephites, and his kidnapping likely being related to Melody’s.

Securing help from the prophet Nephi, Jim leaves his kids with Jenny and heads out with a team of Nephite Christians, with the aim of rescuing Melody and Garth and discovering Jacob’s hidden city. And they know they’d better hurry, as it’s been 33 years since Christ’s birth and things are looking hairy...
