• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Bradley may seem like a more ideal version of Kuzco, but bear in mind his sole purpose is to replace Kuzco so he can ruin his grades.
• Dude, Not Funny!: When Brad keeps stealing his thunder and telling funny jokes, Kuzco frantically tells a joke about someone shooting a llama. This prompts the group to respond with dead silence, before Kronk points out it's not funny.
• F--: Brad ruins Kuzco's grades so badly he ends up with a G minus.
• Line-of-Sight Name: Kuzco thinks up the name "Brad Bowllama" from a loaf of bread, a bowl, and a picture of Patcha's llama.
• Literal Metaphor: The episode opens with Kuzco narrating the old adage "You are your own worst enemy". He uses this to exemplify that the reason he's imprisoned in Yzma's dungeon is because the saying took on a life of its own.
• True Companions: When they learn Yzma has him captive, Kuzco is saved by Malina, Kronk and Pacha. Ultimately, it's their rescue that helps him realize that they truly are his friends.
