Recap / The Dreamstone S 02 E 03 Urpgors Island

Go To

Original Air Date (UK):

Urpgor has ran out of ideas, but thanks to his mobile mudbath and his recently made Boomerang, he came up with an Urpney-made island to hide the Dreamstone on, making it hard to find for the Noops when they go to Viltheed, but even harder to find for Sgt Blob.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • Characterisation Click Moment: Urpgor, who was more a Satellite Character for most of Season One, is established as the Chessmaster Sidekick from this episode, constantly abused and under pressure from Zordrak to think up new schemes. This also develops upon Urpgor's hatred from Blob and his men, due to constantly screwing up his schemes and thus serving as a catalyst for Zordrak's wrath. From this point on in the series, Urpgor's role becomes far more active in trying to maintenance his schemes against Blob's buffoonery.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Downplayed case. Rufus' fiction savvy gives him the idea to build a raft when the Noops get stranded.
  • Chessmaster Sidekick: This episode reveals it is Urpgor, not Zordrak, that is responsible for every plan to take the stone. Played with since Urpgor (as shown in many episodes) is far from loyal, but still knows better to appease his master.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The Urpneys mistakenly land on one of a large cluster of volcanic islands, with a crash leaving the Noops on the exact same island on the way to Viltheed, while a blunder by the Urpneys leaves the stone right in within the Noops' reach.
  • Do Wrong, Right: Urpgor is horrified when Blob is about to obliviously throw the Dreamstone into a real volcano, which would still dispose of it, but not through his elaborate plan. He is equally indignant when the stone is supposedly sunk in the ocean, despite Nug pointing out they'd still have succeeded if so.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Parodied, with Urpgor completely improvising an idea to an antsy Zordrak while still in his bathtub.
  • The Fool: The Noops bumble their way to the Dreamstone's location unknowingly, while the Urpneys' buffoonery leaves it conveniently placed right before them.
  • Just in Time: As usual, the Noops get the stone back to the Land of Dreams just before the Argorribles invade.
  • Mr. Imagination: Rufus suffers a particularly bad case here.
  • Old-Timey Bathing Suit: Nug wears this while sun-bathing. Averted with Frizz and Blob, who wear swimming trunks and a speedo, respectively.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Urpneys powering Urpgor's island leave after getting sick of Urpgor's slave dragging.
  • The Slacker: Rufus manages to irritate the others by constantly neglecting his work to read his book.
  • Spanner in the Works: Urpgor's plan likely would have worked if not for the other Urpneys neglecting to make a smoke signal, leading Blob to mistake a real island nearby for Urpgor's imitation.
