Go To

Jay gets into a relationship with a film projectionist. However, he learns that there may be such a thing as too much love when she traps him in her apartment!

This episode has examples of

  • Because You Were Nice to Me:
    • Jeremy tells Margo why he's friends with Jay; Jay was the only critic to like Jeremy's first movie.
    • Jay gives the projectionist another date because of this trope.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Jeremy Hawk puts his action hero mojo to work and save Jay from his stalker.
  • Broken Record: A cardboard cutout of Jay was made to promote his book, but it incessantly repeats "Buy my book!" to the frustration of everyone who hears it. According to Jay, these cutouts were discontinued after a bookstore manager shot himself.
  • Can't You Read the Sign?: After Jay imagines the Statue of Liberty undressing for him, a policeman points at a sign reading "No fantasizing about statue."
  • Caustic Critic: Jay previously derided Haing S. Ngor's performance in The Killing Fields with "If you ask me, he should've gone to the acting fields." On the other hand, Jay was the only critic to give Kegger Party at Hanging Rock (Jeremy's first movie) a positive review.
  • Dress Hits Floor: Jay imagines the Statue of Liberty dropping her tunic, hitting the base with a loud clang.
  • Easily Forgiven: The episode ends with Jay going on another date with the projectionist after she's released from prison, simply because she gave him attention. Though he's not drinking any wine she offers him.
  • For the Evulz: The projectionist reveals she's going to start killing Jay over a period of several days for absolutely no reason beyond that she's insane.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Jeremy and Margo go to police, the officer they're talking to tells them This Is Reality. Right then, a confrontation with a perp and a Cowboy Cop straight out of the movies plays out, complete with Bond One-Liner.
  • Not Me This Time: When Jay wakes up to see his ankles are hideously swollen, he demands to know what the projectionist did to him. She flatly reveals she didn't do anything; Jay's just out of shape.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his frustration with various movies, Jay gave Kegger Party at Hanging Rock a positive review.
  • Shout-Out: To Taxi. A shot of Jeremy riding a taxi mimics the opening to that show, with the theme playing on the soundtrack.
  • Stalker Shrine: When Jay arrives at the projectionist's apartment, he finds that it's loaded with Jay Sherman merchandise. "You seem to have a psychotic obsession with me."
  • Traitor Shot: The projectionist, after Jay drinks the wine she offered.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To Misery.
