When Duke Phillips makes a deal with a tobacco company and forces Jay to plug the product, Jay quits Coming Attractions. Jobless, he decides to take up trucking.


This episode has examples of

  • Crying Indian: Duke wanted Jay to promote a new line of chewing tobacco, Savvy Indian (one of the fine products from his newest business acquisition, Scum Co.). Jay resisted because kids watch his show, but Duke pushed it to the point of hiring a Native American to stand behind Jay during the show and talk about the product. Jay was outraged and quit. When Duke reminded him of his contract, Jay ripped it up and walked away—causing the Native American to start crying.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Because all the good call-signs were taken, Jay gets saddled with "Lardbutt". After he makes a run to Florida and back, it becomes upgraded to "Hardbutt".
  • Hard Truckin': Jay gets a job as a truck driver. He volunteers to make a run to Florida that tests his endurance and earns him respect from the truckers. Jay claims watching bad movies for 24 hours straight made him lost all feeling and aids him on his trip.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Duke's decision to endorse tobacco bites him hard, as it not only starts to cost his network viewership, but Rex Reed's methods force him to "Pay some Navajo fifty bucks!" every time Rex goes on the air.
  • New Job Episode: Jay refuses to promote the Savvy Indian Chewing Tobacco on Coming Attractions. He quits and finds a job as a truck driver.
  • Two Decades Behind: Advertising tobacco on American television was outlawed in 1970.
