Recap / The Cleveland Show S 2 E 16 The Way The Cookie Crumbles

Go To

Cleveland gets mad at his parents for selling all of his childhood toys at a yard sale.

Tropes:

  • Author Avatar: The Cleveland Show animators, Anthony Lioi and Albert Calleros appear as themselves in the episode, animating a scene where Cleveland walks into the animator's room, just as Cleveland walks into the animator's room.
    • Strangely, Lioi and Calleros aren't voiced by themselves and are instead voiced by Will Forte and Gregory Jbara, respectively.
Anthony: Hey, Albert. I just realized. Since we're the ones animating this, we're basically gods here.
[Albert is immediately shown, sitting on a bed, getting fed grapes by a scantily-clad Neytiri]
Albert: Way ahead of you, Anthony.
  • Bankruptcy Barrel: Cleveland and Freight Train end up in these at the end of the episode.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: This episode has a major fourth wall joke, where Cleveland walks into the animator's room, while they're in the middle of animating the scene where Cleveland walks into the animator's room.
  • Cutaway Gag: Cleveland does the same cutaway gag about a butterfly running into his ex-girlfriend at a coffee shop, three times before Donna finally shuts him up.
  • Disguised in Drag: Cleveland, Freight Train, and The Guys go in drag for the first (but certainly not the last) time, when they try to trick Barry into giving them their stolen money back.
    • We later see Angus, Gordy, Arch, and Saul Friedman in drag, having been in the exact same oddly specific situation as them.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Considering what a passive-aggressive bitch Cookie is to her, Donna thoroughly enjoys the humiliation she suffered by losing her money, adding in details which emphasis just how stupid she was to have fallen for it.
  • Garage Sale: Freight Train and Cookie have a garage sale, where they sell all of Cleveland's old stuff. When Cleveland sees his friends playing with his childhood possessions all of a sudden, he gets mad at his parents. However, he soon backtracks on this, when he finds out they did this because they needed the money to live after being swindled out of their life savings.
  • Honest John's Dealership: A shifty salesman named Barry swindles Freight Train and Cookie out of all their money ... twice.
  • Literal Metaphor: Cleveland literally eats crow.
  • Non-Residential Residence: Freight Train and Cookie are forced to sleep in a storage unit.
  • Real Trailer, Fake Movie: This episode's cold opening is a fake commercial for "The Cleveland Movie".
