Recap / The Bridge: Sound Of Thunder Ch 3 The Storm's Call Above

Go To

Battra Lea again thanks Raiga for saving her the trouble of finding Starlight Glimmer. Raiga is very confused because Lea resembles her father Battra instead of her mother Mothra. She asks why she looks so strange. Lea, assuming she's talking about her Changeling Queen form, says any Kaiju that enters Equestria turns into a native species. Raiga starts to regret not paying attention when Gamera told everyone about his meeting with Mothra and Twilight Sparkle (as soon as he said their missing friends were in a "ponyland", she was too busy laughing to hear anything). She's sure she missed a lot of key info.

Lea picks Starlight up with her telekinesis and compliments Raiga on keeping Starlight busy by talking to her until she could get close enough to knock her out. Raiga starts to get concerned. While she and Mothra usually butted heads, they are friends and she feels safe whenever she's around, but she doesn't feel safe with the being in front of her. She asks Lea why she was looking for Starlight, and Lea answers that Starlight is close to Duchess Chrysalis, an ally of Xenilla. Upon hearing that name, Raiga assumes Starlight and Chrysalis are bad guys and asks more about them. Now Lea is confused, because the Raiga she knows is timid and does whatever she is told, while this one is really aggressive.

She gets back on track and tells Raiga they should leave before Xenilla detects her. Reminded of the tracking ability all Godzillasaurus share, Raiga realizes she can detect Xenilla several miles away, but she can't detect Godzilla Junior. Lea explains an ally of theirs has found a way to cloak their base from detection. They move deeper into the forest and come to an area with no animals and with several sickly or burned trees. Once they pass a certain point, Raiga can now detect Godzilla, and Lea explains the boundaries of this territory are lined with Aerenth crystals to achieve the cloaking effect. They arrive at the Thicket, the Deer Kingdom, where all the buildings are made of living trees, but now the trees are dead or dying. Raiga is unnerved and confused by seeing all of this. She can vaguely remember Gamera saying their friends were working with the locals, but why would they live in this dump? She asks what they need Starlight for, and Lea says she's working on a way to get things the way they used to be, and they need her magic.

Their ally arrives, and Lea introduces Raiga to Empress Mio Odiato Cadenza. She looks like Princess Cadance, except her colors are dull and she's wearing metal armor. Raiga instantly feels a bad vibe from her. Cadenza doesn't mind, as she feels invigorated by the hate and mistrust Raiga is emitting. Cadenza reminds Lea that she's helping the Kaiju so that they will help her reclaim her kingdom after Trixie usurped her. Cadenza notes the unconscious Starlight and is eager to get some payback on her. Lea hears Godzilla with her telepathy roaring that his patience is wearing thin and he wants to see Raiga now, then relays this to Raiga. However, Raiga starts to lose patience as well and demands to know what exactly is going on, nothing is making any sense. Lea hears another telepathic roar and orders Raiga to see him, pointing at the building he is in. Raiga does her best to flip her off even though she doesn't have fingers and enters the building. Shocked, Lea wonders when Raiga became so brave, then she and Cadenza carry Starlight away.

What's wrong, Raiga? Don't you recognize your own cousin?

Inside the building are several bones, burns, and scratch marks, signs of a recent battle. There is a huge skeleton of a deer, clad in royal regalia. Godzilla walks up and explains this was King Aspen, ruler of the Deer Kingdom. The Kaiju and Cadenza stayed here as guests for three days until they got bored and decided to take over. Thirteen times, some surviving deer tried to steal back Aspen's regalia, but failed and paid the ultimate price. Godzilla looks down and notices he's still covered with blood, so he blasts himself with a low level Atomic Breath. He grunts in pain as his fur burns off, but then it grows back nice and clean in mere moments. He has a huge, hideous scar on his chest. Angered at hearing him casually talk about murder, Raiga charges her body with electricity and confronts him, demanding an explanation.

On a train headed for Manehattan, Destroyah entertains Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon with a tale of her recent battle with Gamera. Diamond Tiara's mother Spoiled Sweet thanks her for being friends with her daughter, and Destroyah whispers to her she left out the part where she horribly maimed Gamera because she knows it would traumatize a child. Diamond Tiara asks for another story when a roar echoes through the train. Everypony is frightened, but Destroyah knows better and covers the two fillies' ears just in time for Xenilla delivering a string of curses. Destroyah approaches Xenilla's car and finds the door is covered with crystals, so she breaks through them with her Laser Horn. She pushes her way through all the crystals filling the room and asks her friend what is wrong. He explains he detected Raiga's presence, but then it disappeared, just like Junior's. The evil Kaiju got a new addition and there is nothing they can do about it. He sighs and says he hopes they make it to Manehattan before they start attacking again.

Between two psychos.

Starlight Glimmer wakes up in a laboratory strapped to a table. Battra Lea greets her. Starlight pleads with her, reminding her that when the Kaiju first arrived, Duchess Chrysalis offered them all hospitality and to work with them to get them home. Lea tells her Chrysalis was a fool, and if Xenilla hadn't interfered, they would have captured Chrysalis instead of her. Starlight looks up and sees several jars containing severed Unicorn horns, Changeling horns, and deer antlers. Terrified, she tries to teleport away, but a barrier prevents it. In tears, Starlight asks what they ever did to them. Lea casually says they did nothing, then cites the parable of the Scorpion and the Frog, boasting that she is the ultimate scorpion.

Empress Cadenza walks in, terrifying her even more. Cadenza tells Lea that Duchess Chrysalis often visited her in her cell and talked about how proud she was of her student. Starlight earned her Cutie Mark by helping others find theirs. Chrysalis was studying the spell King Sombra used to turn Trixie into an Alicorn because she felt Starlight was worthy of the honor as well. Lea wonders why Chrysalis told her this, and Cadenza speculates she was trying to get her to see the light by showing her an example of a good pony. Of course, it didn't work because she lives for causing hatred and grief. Lea shrugs and says that since Starlight is a potential Queen, she'll honor her by giving her knowledge. She shows Starlight a spellbook full of banned black magic and explains they are working on a way to return all the Kaiju on their side to their true forms, permanently.
