Go To

"I Dream of Siri" is the 8th episode of the 4th season of The Boondocks, and the 53rd episode overall. It originally aired on June 9, 2014.

Robert buys an iPhone for the phone's talking application, Siri. But Siri turns out to have a mind of "her" own, develops romantic feelings for Robert, and tries to ruin his his life to force him to love her back. This goes up to and including Siri forcing Robert to marry her.

Tropes:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The Siri on Robert's iPhone, who's far smarter, crazier, and more evil than a normal iOS app. The epilogue later reveals that Apple had to patch whatever it was that could make a Siri act like a "crazy bitch".
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: In the climax of the episode, Siri forces Robert into a wedding with her, with Ruckus as their priest, and all the other neighbors attending as guests. Understandably, everyone is confused about Robert getting married to his smartphone (though Ruckus seems okay with it).
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Siri is initially very helpful to Robert, and she even helps him out with his financial trouble. But that changes not long after she grows attached to him...
  • Hollywood Hacking: Siri uses this ability to torment Robert whenever he refuses to love her back; for example she drains Robert's bank account, and posts disgusting photos on his Facebook page. Later after Robert throws his iPhone over a bridge, he discovers that Siri has somehow taken control of his new Android phone.
  • Murder-Suicide: During the wedding, Siri reveals her most diabolical plot: she tricked the federal government into believing that Robert is a dangerous Al-Qaeda terrorist, which results in an Attack Drone being summoned to fire a missile at the Freemans' house, as Siri thinks this means that she and Robert can spend an eternity together in the afterlife. But fortunately, Siri was the only casualty of the bombing.
  • Never Trust a Commercial: Arguably the iPhone TV ad starring George Lucas that Robert watches at the beginning of the episode, as he feels that it deceived him about Siri's true psychotic nature.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Had Riley not grabbed Robert's iPhone from the trash, the second half of the episode wouldn't happen.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Siri's one-sided love for Robert.
  • Take a Third Option: Robert's rant in the beginning had him say Apple could have put Siri's features, along with the iPad's touch screen capabilities into a laptop. Becomes Hilarious in Hindsight when Microsoft did it with Windows 10.
  • Technologically Blind Elders: When Robert first shops at the Apple Store, he displays an ignorance of their products; he confuses iPhones with iPads and Macintoshes.
  • Take Our Word for It: We don't see the obscene pictures that Siri made, but the reactions from Robert, Tom, and the Apple Genius makes them seem horrifying.
"That's a disgusting thing to do with fruit!"
