Go To

"The Love Spell Potential" is an episode of The Big Bang Theory that first aired on May 9, 2013. Directed by Anthony Rich. Teleplay by Steven Molaro, Eric Kaplan and Steve Holland, based on a story by Chuck Lorre, Jim Reynolds and Maria Ferrari.

Amy, Bernadette and Penny go to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas, but Amy has an incident with an agent of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), so they go back home.

Raj is playing Dungeons & Dragons with Howard, Leonard and Sheldon when he gets a call from Lucy (Kate Micucci). Raj unceremoniously leaves the game to go to a nice restaurant with Lucy.

With Raj out of the game, Howard invites Amy, Bernadette and Peter to join them. Everyone's having a good time, though Penny needs the help of wine, until a love spell is cast in the game on Amy and Sheldon's game characters. This upsets Amy, since her friends regard her relationship with Sheldon as something to crack jokes about.

Meanwhile, Raj's date with Lucy is going well until Lucy decides to escape the place and winds up fenced in just outside the restaurant with no way to get back in.

Tropes

  • All for Nothing: The girls never get to Las Vegas because Amy hit a TSA officer while being frisked.
  • Mood Whiplash: A brutal one occurs for Sheldon and Amy when the others push their characters into having sex during the game; since they haven't gone that far in real-life. Amy storms off into Sheldon's room, upset that the others are mocking their non-sexual relationship but Sheldon goes to comfort her, saying how intimate the relationship is to him and how he has not ruled out having sex with her one day. To make her feel better, he sets up their own intimate playthrough of the in-game sexual encounter away from the others.
  • RPG Episode: The girls join in on the boys' Dungeons & Dragons game after their trip to Las Vegas gets canceled.
  • Shout-Out to Guns & Ammo: Lucy has a 2-year subscription because she can't say no to anyone.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Penny mixes some alcoholic lemonade for the gang, and when Sheldon objects on the grounds that alcohol would impair their judgment during the game, she says it's actually a "magic potion that makes me like you." Everyone proceeds to refer to the drink as a "potion" for the rest of the night.
