Plot

When Leonard learns that Stuart is going on a date with Penny, he jealously gives Stuart advice to sabotage it, but his guilt soon gets to him. Meanwhile, Howard learns that a waste disposal system he built for the Space Station is going to malfunction and hurries to find a means to fix it.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Despite all the efforts the group went through, the ending scene implies that Howard's repairs didn't work and the space toilet still failed.
  • Brick Joke: The meat loaf stuck on the ceiling. It finally falls off in the penultimate scene, with Leonard and Penny confused why it was there in the first place.
  • Don't Explain the Joke: Sheldon keeps explaining all the jokes about Howard's space toilet.
  • Literal Metaphor: Howard has to find a way to fix the space toilet or the waste material is going to get into the power turbines on the ISS.
Raj: You mean so it doesn't hit the fan?
  • Object Ceiling Cling: When Howard first tests the modifications he made for the space toilet, he tests it with a chunk of his mother's meat loaf. Instead of going down, the toilet shoots it up, and the meat loaf gets stuck to the ceiling.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Leonard gives Stuart bad advice for his date with Penny. However, he later comes to regret it.
  • Toilet Humor: A lot of it regarding the fact Howard's zero gravity waste disposal system is on the verge of failing.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: Stuart tells Leonard that Penny called out Leonard's name when they were kissing. Stuart is just happy she didn't say "You know I'm a dude, right?"

Sheldon claims that not checking one's voice mail leads to anarchy because "it's part of a social contract", and "if that breaks down, then all social contracts break down".
