- Don't Explain the Joke: Sheldon keeps explaining all the jokes about Howard's space toilet.
- Literal Metaphor: Howard has to find a way to fix the space toilet or the waste material is going to get into the power turbines on the ISS.Raj: You mean so it doesn't hit the fan?
- Object Ceiling Cling: When Howard first tests the modifications he made for the space toilet, he tests it with a chunk of his mother's meat loaf. Instead of going down, the toilet shoots it up, and the meat loaf gets stuck to the ceiling.
- Relationship Sabotage: Leonard gives Stuart bad advice for his date with Penny. However, he later comes to regret it.
- Toilet Humor: A lot of it regarding the fact Howard's zero gravity waste disposal system is on the verge of failing.
