Recap / The Backyardigans S 3 E 2 Blazing Paddles

Go To

Music genre: Raï

Sheriff Uniqua must defeat Pablo the Ping Pong Bandit in order to recover her friends's paddles and bring the sport back to Ping Pong Mesa.

  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Uniqua's ping pong training eventually grants her Super-Speed, making her fast enough to run up a clock tower to intercept a ball, as well as the ability to return the ball with so much force, it catches fire and burns a hole through Pablo's paddle.
  • Charlie Brown from Outta Town: Uniqua loses her paddle and is exiled from Ping Pong Mesa by Pablo. In order to rematch him, she wears a mask and calls herself "The Pink Fury".
  • Duels Decide Everything: At least, they do to the Ping Pong Bandit. When he wins, he takes his opponent's paddle, and no one thinks of just refusing to hand it over. Likewise, he gives up his paddles fair and square after being bested by Uniqua, despite supposedly being a bandit.
  • Frothy Mugs of Water: The saloon in Ping Pong Mesa serves juice instead of alcohol.
  • Improvised Weapon: Or improvised paddle, in this case. After losing her ping pong paddle to Pablo, Uniqua uses a similarly-shaped piece of cactus to challenge him to a rematch.
  • Punny Title: Blazing Saddles
  • Signature Move: The Ping Pong Bandit's "Bandit Slam-it", a powerful Spin Attack that returns the ball at high speeds and in an unpredictable trajectory, making it extremely difficult to intercept.
