Recap / The Americans S 3 E 2 Baggage

Go To

Philip, with Elizabeth's help, disposes of Annelise's body (by shoving it into a suitcase), and Philip gets Yousaf to agree to set up a meeting of CIA agents involved in Afghanistan so Philip can get their names. Elizabeth and Philip are able to take pictures of the license plates of cars driven by the people Yousaf meets with, and even follow them into a bar to take pictures. The disposal of Annelise's body makes Philip even more determined to keep Paige from following him and Elizabeth into the life of a spy, but Elizabeth still thinks it's worthwhile, and remembers how she was called to the cause when she was younger.

Zinaida (Svetlana Efremova), the defector Stan and the others were briefed on, is smuggled into America, and gives press conferences where she says her disgust with the Soviet Union's war on Afghanistan was what led her to defect (she worked for an agency monitoring the U.S. and Canada), which the U.S. government is pleased by.

Nina is now in prison, and joined by Evi (Katja Herbers), a Belgian woman who insists she's innocent, but Nina doesn't want to talk to her. She does get visited by Igor (Boris Lee Krutonog), Oleg's father, who mentions Oleg wanted him to see about getting Nina out. Nina, in turn, asks Igor to tell Oleg she wasn't pretending with him. Meanwhile, Oleg confronts Stan at gunpoint about the fact he let Nina get deported back to the Soviet Union. Stan tells Oleg to go ahead and shoot, and walks away unscathed, but is so shaken by the experience, he calls Sandra and tells him. However, while Sandra is glad Stan is finally opening himself up to her, she insists he can't use her as his emotional crutch, and they aren't going to get back together.
