Elizabeth and Philip are asked to put a bug inside Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger's home. They do this by poisoning the maid's son, and insisting they'll only cure him if she agrees to put a clock in the office of his home. She doesn't want to at first, but eventually capitulates.
Stan and Chris are able to turn Nina, who works at the Rezidentura, when Stan points out he knows Nina's been trading caviar she's stolen from the Soviet Embassy for stereo equipment she's been sending back home.
This episode contains examples of:
- Batman Gambit: The first two times Philip threatens Viola, the maid, she refuses to plant the bug inside the Weinberger home, claiming God will protect her. It isn't until Philip decides to put a Vorpal Pillow over Viola's poisoned son that she screams and says she'll do it.
- Call-Back: Philip tells Elizabeth about Stan going into their garage, and assures her Stan didn't find anything.
- Ear-Piercing Plot: One subplot involves Elizabeth deciding to pierce Paige's ears (just like her mother did with her) when she realizes Paige is starting to become a teenager.
- Foreshadowing: When Elizabeth wonders what would happen to the children if anything happened to her or Philip, she says she thinks Henry would know how to handle himself. Henry will prove she's right a few episodes later.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Chris betrays a hint of jealousy when Stan gets a congratulatory call from the White House Chief of Staff about getting an asset inside the Soviet Embassy.
- Historical Domain Character: In addition to Casper Weinberger, we also hear his meeting with then-British Defense Minister John Nott, who served under Margaret Thatcher.
- Irony: Contrary to stereotype, Elizabeth has never had caviar before. She tells Philip her family was too poor to afford it.
- Kicked Upstairs: Stan and Chris discuss how Agent Bartholomew, who had been in charge of Timoshev, has been transferred out of the counter-intelligence unit, albeit promoted to a higher position.
- My God, What Have I Done?: After Philip successfully threatens Viola to convince her to plant the bug, when he's home, he feels rotten about the whole thing. Elizabeth convinces him they had no choice.
- Token Minority: Discussed; when Stan and Chris are playing Good Cop/Bad Cop with the owner of the store Nina's been going into, Stan admits while he himself can't physically threaten the man, Chris can because he's the only Hispanic in the FBI counter-intelligence unit, so the worst thing that will happen is a reprimand (although it's possible Stan is just saying this to mess with the guy).
