Darwin and Gumball egg Bobert into upgrading his software, but the new applications are all worse than useless and he eventually starts crashing entirely.

Tropes:

  • The Cameo: The episode opens with an ad for Bobert upgrades, featuring a live-action human man. The actor is Philip Hunt (playing "Fillippo Betto-Hunt"), the creative director of Studio AKA, where several key staff members of Gumball (including the show's creator, Ben Bocquelet, and director Mic Graves) previously worked.
  • Deus ex Machina: A disc with Bobert's old OS just happens to be on the plane he's being shipped on. Gumball finds it during the free fall and uses it to fix Bobert before they crash into the ground.
  • Faux Horrific: Gumball isn't disgusted when he sticks his fingers in the employee's nose or squeezes his butt, but he's grossed out when he touches the guy's ponytail.
    • Similarly, Gumball, Darwin, and Bobert rise out of a tombstone like zombies on their way to the Bobert Store and scare Harry, only for Gumball and kindly ask him for directions.
  • Furry Reminder: While free-falling to catch Bobert, Gumball takes a moment to sleep on the keyboard of a laptop and purr. He even takes on a slightly more realistic cat appearance.
  • Loads and Loads of Loading: The install time for Bobert's upgrade quickly shortens to three, two minutes, four seconds... and then all the way to 17 hours. 17 hours later, Gumball and Darwin are still standing there, covered in cobwebs and still waiting for the download to finish.
  • Meaningless Meaningful Words: As a part of their parody of Apple, both the marketing for Bobert and their employees use a lot of buzzwords in canned speeches about their corporate model.
  • Politeness Judo: Darwin knocks on a plane's back door, saying "Hello, could you please open the door?" The door abruptly hits him, Gumball and New Bobert as it swings open.
  • Robot Buddy: How Boberts are advertised.
  • Take That!:
    • Overall, the episode is a slam against Apple and the iPhone iOS updates.
    • Darwin and Gumball are aghast that a popular musician's new album was automatically added to Bobert's hard drive.
    • Gumball and Darwin return the new Bobert to the store because he bent when they sat on him, poking fun at iPhone 6's design flaw that was addressed in the newer version iPhone 6S.
    • Bobert's OS goes from functional to terrible when he goes from version 7 to 8, which is probably a shot at Microsoft and Windows 8.
  • White Void Room: In a parody of Apple Stores' use of Ascetic Aesthetic, the entirety of the inside of the Bobert Store is pure, uniform white—including the items, doors, and employees. This makes basically everything invisible unless there's an object from outside to cast a silhouette against.

Bobert ad

In an episode that takes numerous potshots at Apple and their products, the ad for Bobert is filled with nonsense.
