Recap / The Addams Family S 1 E 6 Morticia Joins The Ladies League

Go To

Morticia, interested in joining the Ladies' League, invites two of the senior members over for tea. At the same time, Pugsley begs his father to take him to the circus and brings back a friend — star attraction Gorgo the gorilla. The "houseguest" upsets both Lurch and the members of the league.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Chick Magnet: Morticia initially asks Gomez to stay until the members of the league arrive, but she quickly changes her mind. She tells him that she knows how the female sex adores him.
  • Continuity Nod: When Pugsley asks Gomez to take him to the circus, his father expresses worry that this is another manifestation of the same strangeness that saw him become interested in the Boy Scouts.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Lurch does not seem to like Gorgo, especially after he successfully wrinkles the laundry that Lurch had been struggling with for some time. Eventually Morticia and Gomez realize the problem. They ring for him specifically to tell him that he's not being replaced.
  • Innocently Insensitive: After Lurch fails in wrinkling the laundry and Gorgo succeeds, Gomez tells Lurch that he can do some things and an ape can do others. He doesn't realize until Morticia points it out that Lurch may be jealous of Gorgo and if so, he just prodded a sore spot.
  • The Last Straw: When Gomez takes Pugsley to the circus, the owner, a friend of Gomez', tells him about all the problems he's been having lately. One of his entertainers, a little person, starting growing after taking dozens of vitamins. The Fat Lady fell in love, losing her appetite and most of her weight. When he comes to the Addams house to pick up Gorgo and finds him ironing clothes, he moans that he's ruined. However, Gomez manages to think of a way to turn it around — the circus now bills Gorgo as the "most domesticated gorilla."
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Morticia, who almost never raises her voice, yells at Gorgo for messing up the tea.
  • Removing the Rival: Gorgo is standing nearby when Morticia tells Lurch to wait for the bell before bringing in the tea. Having been afraid for some time that Gorgo would replace him, Lurch pointedly tells the "houseguest" that he's doing the serving. However, Gorgo shoves Lurch into a closet and brings out the tea himself.
