Tropes

  • And I Must Scream: The trauma of Cadogan deep diving into Madi's memories has caused her to suffer from a stroke that has left her trapped in her own body cognizant but unable to move.
  • Defector from Decadence: After seeing Cadogan willingly try to rip Becca's memories out of Madi's head despite what it will do to her Levitt chooses to side with Clarke and Octavia and uses the bridge to transport them to Bardo.
  • Defiant to the End: Once Cadogan makes it clear that he will continue to go through Madi's mind regardless of the damage it will do to her she tells him to go float himself.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Clarke admits to Gaia that she can't handle losing anyone else she loves and that if she losses Madi she will have nothing left.
  • Enemy Mine: Clarke and Octavia release Sheidheda from his cell so he can cause a distraction so they can get to Madi.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Levitt turns on the Disciples and helps Clarke and Octavia enter Bardo to rescue Madi.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Clarke is left in this state once she finds a completely paralyzed Madi holding her tight and muttering "my baby" over and over.
  • Internal Reveal: Madi reveals to Cadogan Jordan's theory that the Last War is a mistranslation of the Last Test.
  • Love Redeems: While he was hardly evil to begin with Levitt fully sides with the good guys in large part due to his feelings for Octavia. When she tells him that he's waited his whole life for the Last War, Levitt admits his life didn't really start until he met her.
  • Mercy Kill: Once it becomes clear that Madi's condition is irreversible Clarke takes a pistol out to shot her. Octavia offers to do it instead so Clarke wont be forced to kill her daughter. However after finding out that Cadogan has the code the group depart to stop him with Clarke promising to return to her.
  • Party Scattering: Due to the events of the previous episode the group are all fractured into different parts of the bunker and separate from each other. The group that was at the former fighting pits are trapped and Clarke and Octavia take the tracker pills so they can get to Bardo. Murphy, Raven and Jackson find the Anomaly Stone and use it to get a critically wounded Emori back to Sanctum and Echo and Niylah's whereabouts are unknown.
  • Single Tear: Madi sheds one after Clarke leaves to stop Cadogan since it is the only form of movement she has left at this point.
  • The Unreveal: Murphy, Jackson and Raven find the Anomaly Stone underneath a floor marked by an Azgeda symbol. The group briefly wonders why the mark is there before deciding they don't care in the face of Emori's life being in danger.
  • War Is Hell: This gets brought up several times in the episode with Jordan flat out refusing to accept that another war is the answer for how humanity will ascend to its next form. Likewise Levitt is shocked when he sees the corpses of people he's known all his life and Octavia tells him that real life is far less glamorous then watching their exploits on holovids.
  • We Need a Distraction: Realizing that there are too many Disciples between them and Madi, Clarke and Octavia release Sheidheda from the cell next to their's so he can cause a distraction. Sheidheda's distraction was apparently kill everyone he sees.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Despite his assurances of Madi's safety once Cadogan realizes that the only way to access Becca's memories is to do a deep dive into parts of her brain that aren't designed to be checked through he does so which results in her suffering a stroke that leaves her completely paralyzed.
  • You Are Not Alone: Jordan tells Hope this after she tells Octavia that she is scared of being left alone again.
