Clarke and her friends attempt to rebuild Sanctum as a new threat rises in the woods.
Tropes:
- Alien Abduction: Bellamy is knocked out, dragged through the forest, and taken away by invisible creatures within the first minute of the premiere.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: Hope says "My mother, my responsibility.".
- Continuity Nod: Madi has a sketch of Clarke as Wanheda in her notebook, and Gaia jokes that she missed out on that (since she didn't debut until later).
- Death by Irony: Russell Prime has lived for years by snatching others' bodies. He finally dies for the last time by having his own body snatched by Sheidheda.
- Death Seeker: Russell Prime. He succeeds, but not in the way he anticipated.
- Died in Your Arms Tonight: Madi reveals that her biological mother died in her arms.
- Easy Amnesia: Hope has no memory of who she is, why she is there, stabbing Octavia mere moments before, or even if she can run fast.
- Invisible Monsters: The strangers that are hunting Echo, Gabriel, and Hope, and who kidnapped Bellamy, appear to be this, but are revealed to be humans in invisibility suits.
- It's All My Fault: Murphy is left with a lot of guilt for helping the Prime's last season and believes that, while indirectly, his actions led to Abby's death (which isn't helped by Jackson who directly blames him for Abby's death.}
- Killed Off for Real: Sheidheda slashes Russell Prime's throat in the mind space, effectively killing him for the final time.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Clarke does not hold back while beating the crap out of Russell.
- Not So Stoic: When Clarke finally allows herself to mourn Abby, she completely loses it.
- Parental Substitute: Madi seemingly has to remind Clarke that she is not her biological mother, and that Madi actually had parents before Clarke showed up, including a mother who died in Madi's arms.
- Sanity Slippage: One of the effects of the Anomaly. While we've seen its effects previously on Octavia, Gabriel, and Diyoza, this time around we see Echo and Hope's reactions to it.
- Slasher Smile: Sheidheda in Russell's body gives a chilling one at the end of the episode when Clarke announces that he will be executed the next day.
- Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred!: Russell goads Clarke the entire episode so that she will kill him. She finally snaps when he hands her Abby's clothes and wedding ring and, after beating him half to death, decides to leave him to burn. Of course, by then, Russell is dead and Sheidheda has his body, and he does NOT want to die. She ends up saving him from the fire to announce his public execution the next day.
- The Stoic: Clarke refuses to grieve Abby, much to the concern of Madi and Raven.
- To Absent Friends: The group toasts Abby.
- What You Are in the Dark: Echo's hallucinations in the Anomaly taunt her as a follower who was willing to kill her only friend to get by, and question her love for Bellamy.
- While Rome Burns: Clarke stops the Sanctum residents from trying to save the palace, ordering them to let it burn.
