Recap / The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You Ch 024

Go To

As the group enjoys lunch on the roof, Kusuri realises that she forgot her bento. Rentarou lets her have his, then goes to buy himself a replacement lunch at the school store. Seeing some fried egg on toast, he reaches for it at the exact same time as a younger female student. As he turns to look at her—ZING!!

Recovering, Rentarou notices that Girlfriend #7 is wearing the middle school uniform and asks her about it, only for her to get defensive. She then tries to buy the egg on toast, but finds that she has forgotten her wallet, so Rentarou buys it and offers to give her half. #7 initially refuses, but her hunger gets the better of her and she agrees to share. The moment she bites into it, Rentarou is surprised to see her personality do a complete 180. After eating, #7 explains that her body digests food very quickly, which causes her to be constantly hungry, and that in turn causes her to be constantly angry. #7 then apologises to Rentarou for her previous attitude, then explains that anything she sees or hears can remind her of food, so she constantly wears her hood up and has her headphones on in order to drown out as much food-related talk as possible. Thanking Rentarou for the meal, #7 leaves, but refuses to tell him her name due to her returning hunger.

Meanwhile, the other girls trade lunches with Kusuri to get a taste of Rentarou's bento.

The next day, #7 is craving a menchi-katsu sandwich due to them appearing in a popular TV show. But for that same reason, the school store is sold out. Rentarou appears and, upon hearing #7's problem, suggests that #7 buy a regular katsu sandwich. The girl dismisses this and leaves to go to the convenience store, only to find that every store in the area is sold out of menchi-katsu sandwiches. She then proceeds to get angry with herself, remembering how her habit of constantly lashing out at people, even those who show her kindness, has caused her to end up alone and friendless. Thinking that there is nothing good about her, #7 sadly returns to school, only to be greeted by Rentarou, who takes her to the kitchen and gives her a menchi-katsu sandwich he made for her. #7 is shocked that Rentarou would be so nice to her after she had been so horrible to him, but when he tells her he finds the fact that she loves food so much charming, she is so touched that she asks him to eat with her from now on. She then introduces herself as Kurumi Haraga, but when Rentarou introduces himself and calls her "Kurumi-chan", she starts craving chankonabe (a Japanese stew).

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Shizuka calls Rentarou a "super sonic servant".
  • Bland-Name Product: Kurumi looks for a menchi-katsu sandwich at a 6-11.
  • Food Pills: Nano eats supplements for lunch.
  • For Want Of A Nail: If Kusuri hadn't forgotten her bento, Rentarou wouldn't have met Kurumi (or at least it would have taken longer for him to meet her).
    • Furthermore, Kurumi joining the harem would eventually lead them to save the baseball club from disbandment.
  • Growling Gut: Kurumi's stomach growls as she's trying to refuse Rentarou's offer to share the egg on toast. It growls again before she gets mad at herself for driving everyone away from her, and at the end when Rentarou calls her "Kurumi-chan".
  • Here We Go Again!: The chapter ends with Kurumi craving another kind of Japanese food.
  • Ironic Echo: During their first meeting, Rentarou asks Kurumi why she's at the school store despite attending the middle school, to which she says, “there’s no rule that says a middle schooler can’t go to the high school side store.” Later, she sees Rentarou at her school store, and when she objects, he says, “there’s no rule that says a high schooler can’t go to the middle school side store.”
  • Product Placement: The logos for Apple and McDonald's appear when Kurumi is explaining how just hearing a word that sounds like food makes her feel hungry.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The reason Kurumi is craving fried egg on toast is because she overheard some other students talking about Castle in the Sky.
    • Rentarou compares Kurumi's energy consumption to that of Kirby.
