"This is the tale of a man who continues to fight against destiny."

Teppelin, Capital of the Beastmen Empire. The three surviving generals, Adiane the Elegant, Guame the immovable and Cytomander the Swift report to Lordgenome the Spiral King what had happened to Thymilph.

It has been roughly a week since Kamina was killed and Team Dai-Gurren's morale is low. Simon, blaming himself for Kamina's death, pilots Gurren Lagann (with Rossiu replacing Kamina in Gurren's cockpit) to fight enemy Gunmen out of recklessness and rage. During one nasty fight, Lagann ejects itself and falls. Simon wakes up to find himself surrounded by boxes. He then notices a couple of Beastman Gunmen throwing a box away. Sometime after it lands, Simon uses his drill key to open the box. To his surprise, he discovers a young girl with pale greenish hair. Upon awakening she then introduces herself as Nia. Just then a Beastman Gunmen attacks the two but then they are rescued by Team Dai-Gurren, led by Kittan.Back at the Dai-Gurren (the former Dai-Gunzan), the team wonders what Nia is exactly when, soon enough, Adiane in her Sayrune attacks them. It's then that Nia comes outside and reveals that she is the daughter of the Spiral King himself.

Nia: " Are you not aware of who I am?"

Tropes in this episode:

  • The Dead Have Names: In conversation with Dayakka, Yoko lists off the names of several unseen posthumous characters who died defending Littner Village to emphasize the losses the war against the Beastmen has brought. But despite all the death she's faced in the past, it's the loss of Kamina that takes the heaviest toll on her.
  • Heroic BSoD: Simon is despondent due to Kamina's death and takes his anger out on the beastmen who attack them. However this messes with his spiral power and ultimately overload his Gurren's system (in the form of it "throwing up"). Later Lagann gives out completely as Simon is trying to make it back to Dai-Gurren in response to his negative mood and refuses to budge.
  • It's All My Fault: Simon feels this way toward Kamina's death, blaming himself for becoming so distressed at seeing Yoko kiss Kamina that it distracted him from his task and lead to Kamina getting killed.
  • Shower of Angst: Yoko in the shower expresses her grief over Kamina being killed in no uncertain terms.
