The Punk Frogs return and they ask for help from the turtles, having been enslaved by an ornery alligator mutant named Leatherhead.
Tropes:
- Adaptational Villainy: In the Mirage comics (and other iterations since), Leatherhead was an ally and friend to the Turtles. Here he's just another bad guy the turtles have to fight.
- Arch-Nemesis: Leatherhead is established as being a recurring enemy of the Punk Frogs, having originated from the same Floridian swamp.
- The Bus Came Back: This is the first time we see the Punk Frogs since "Invasion of the Punk Frogs" in Season 2.
- Continuity Nod: The same mutagen that transformed the Punk Frogs turns Leatherhead from an ordinary crocodile into a mutant.
- Fountain of Youth: Leatherhead leads Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady to a water full of "voodoo magic", revealed to be the fountain of youth when it turns Shredder into a toddler.
- Never Smile at a Crocodile: Here we're introduced to Leatherhead, an alligator mutant mutated by the same mutagen-contaminated swamp that created the Punk Frogs.
- Quicksand Sucks: Leatherhand tricks the Turtles and Frogs into resting under a tree with soil that's actually quicksand.
- Ragin' Cajun: Despite being Floridian, Leatherhead talks and acts like a Bayou Cajun. It might be because he mutated right after attacking a Cajun father and son on their boat, his exposure to their DNA being the source of his humanoid attributes.
