"Baby Shower" is the second episode of Superstore's fourth season.
Amy is going through the returned baby items that are slated to be destroyed in order to find stuff she can use for her own baby without spending a lot of money. However, Jonah comes up with a surprisingly good idea: start a registry for baby shower gifts, so that she can get 20% off on everything. However, after the rest of the store's employees find out, Jonah convinces her to hold one in order to get gifts. Unfortunately, Glenn forces his way in so that Jerusha can have one, as well as Cheyenne, who never had one, and Jerusha's friend Diane. However, when it comes time for the gifts, everyone but Glenn gives her a bad gift, while Glenn gives her the one thing she actually wanted: a car seat from her registry. Towards the end, Garrett reveals to Jonah that he knows they're dating; he saw them kiss in the parking lot in the previous episode.
Meanwhile, Dina enlists Mateo to take photos for her christmas card, so she can beat her sister's card. While starting off simple, they move to the warehouse and start getting creative.
This episode provides examples of:
- Beware the Quiet Ones: Sandra. She walks into the warehouse while Dina is hanging there. After Dina asks for help, she briefly considers it, before silently walking away. This causes Dina to, in her own words, "respect her as much as she hates her" right then.
- Chekhov's Gun: The car seat that Amy tried to get a woman to return. At the end, Glenn, the only one to get her something off her registry, gets her the same model.
- Crappy Homemade Gift: Sandra gifts Amy an awkward homemade "lady glove."
- A Day in the Limelight: Dina and Mateo, a surprisingly strong character pairing that isn't featured often.
- Distracted by the Sexy:
- Garrett, who comes into the warehouse and sees Dina nearly naked in a costume for her christmas card photos. He can barely speak, and knocks down boxes as he tries to back out of the warehouse.
- Mateo gets distracted by a male stripper at the baby shower, while Dina is literally left hanging in the warehouse.
- Knew It All Along: Garrett knew Jonah and Amy were dating since last week, when he saw them kissing in the parking lot.
- Not So Above It All: Subverted; although Amy agreed to have a baby shower, it was only to get free baby stuff as gifts.
- A Taste of Their Own Medicine: After Mateo accidentally leaves Dina hanging up in the warehouse, Sandra, who's usually the Butt-Monkey, walks in. Dina asks her to get her down from there, but she silently walks away. Dina yells at her to come back, and claims to respect her as much as she hates her at that moment.
