This episode provides examples of:

  • Antagonist Title: The episode's title refers to the Skeleton King's name.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Mandarin intended to do this with the captured Hyperforce (sans Gibson), to remove their free will and get them to obey him again. Otto almost becomes this.
  • Defiant Captive: The Hyperforce (sans Gibson) is this to Skeleton King, stating they'll never serve him.
    Sparx: Forget it, bonebag!
    Nova: I'd rather be sold in spare parts.
    Antauri: We would not serve you!
  • Dirty Coward: Mandarin and Sakko escape from the Citadel of Bone when Chiro and Gibson rescue the rest of the Hyperforce and confront Skeleton King.
  • Distracting Fake Fight: Chiro and Gibson set the Super Robot to automatically fight the TV Monster by itself to distract the Skeleton King to allow both of them to infiltrate the Citadel of Bone unnoticed.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Otto is the first monkey to almost fall into Mandarin's control, but the other monkeys manage to snap him out of that by reminding him Chiro would come to save them.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Chiro finds Jinmay's body chained and frees her, allowing her to help him to defeat the formless at the Citadel of Bone. Sakko even told Mandarin he should have scattered Jinmay's body in parts into space.
  • Redemption Rejection: Antauri tries to reason with Mandarin before the brainwashing attempt saying it's not too late for him to make things right, but Mandarin laughs and tells him it's too late for them to escape and proceeds to painfully brainwash them.
  • The Reveal: Chiro and Gibson stumble into a room in the Citadel of Bone which for an unknown reason contains Chiro's childhood belongings.
  • Watching the Sunset: Chiro and Jinmay do this at the end of the episode after defeating the Skeleton King and soon are joined by the Hyperforce.
