Oscar receives a camcorder from his parents and sets out to prove to them the magic on the island is real.
Tropes:
- Chekhov's Gun: The fire ants and cottonmouth snake, which are the first things Oscar and Hedgehog are seen filming, are later used in their plan to get the camcorder from Susie.
- Creative Closing Credits: "Witches Lullaby" plays during the credits, indicating it's a "lore-building" episode.
- Foreshadowing: Mortimer explains that there used to be monsters in New Jersey, setting up the big reveal about the island being the only place left with magic.
- Friendly Tickle Torture: The monsters make Oscar "pinkie toe promise" that he will not tell the outside world that they exist. They then all start wiggling their toes against Oscar's foot, making him laugh. Even Hedgehog joins in on the fun.
- Given Name Reveal: Alexa and Lem's last name is revealed when Lem is holding a package with her last name on it.
- Hopeless with Tech: Because she relies on her magic, Susie doesn't know how to use certain modern technology. When she tries to eject a tape from Oscar's camcorder, she tries to cast a spell to open it, it doesn't work and she failed to notice the labeled eject button on the side of the camera. And when her fire alarm is activated, she tries to put a sleep spell on it which doesn't work.
- Mix-and-Match Critters: The alicroc, a combination of an alicorn (itself a mix between a unicorn and a Pegasus) and a crocodile.
- Poor Communication Kills: When Oscar tells Susie that he and Hedgehog are going to show his parents that monsters and magic are real with his camcorder, Susie just takes his camera and doesn't explain to them that everything on the island is supposed to be a secret. This makes them want to get the camera back and send it to Oscar's parents immediately. Luckily, Ava prevents the camera from being sent and she, along with Mortimer and Blanche, explains the reason to Oscar and Hedgehog, making them understand.
- The Reveal: In the past, monsters and magic used to be all over the world. But as time progresses, people's opinion on magic changed and now they want monsters to be locked in captivity. Summer Camp Island is the only sanctuary for the monsters and the island is the only place to still have magic.
- Visual Pun: The fire ants, which are literally on fire, and the cottonmouth snake, whose mouth is indeed full of cotton.
