- An Aesop: Rationing may help in the long run, but not everyone benefits from it. Coal was rationed so much that Molly admits that she was practically running on saw dust.
- Killed Off for Real: Colin pulls a line of gunpowder vans out of Knapford during a Luftwaffe raid. He saves the station and engines, but a bomber drops a bomb onto the vans, completely obliterating Colin and his crew.
