A promising athlete, Derek, has mutated into an energy golem from his exposure to the gas that created the Bang Babies. Static tries to help him and gets a run-in with Ebon and his partners, Talon and Shiv. Calling themselves the Meta-Breed, Ebon tries to enlist Static to be a part of his gang after having recruited Derek, who is renamed D-Struct. Realizing Ebon is bad news, Static tries to get Derek out of the gang to get him help for his condition.

- Foreshadowing: When Static first meets Talon and the rest of the Meta-Breed, she shows resentment that Static managed to maintain a human appearance after the Big Bang while she was turned into a harpy, hinting at her I Just Want to Be Normal attitude she displays towards Ebon when she loses her powers in the final episode.
- I Am a Monster: Derek doesn't take it well when he mutates into a bang baby. The shame is what initially drives him to remain with Ebon's gang, as he feels he can never return to his normal life. Fortunately, Static lets him know his mother loves him unconditionally and just wants him to come home.
- Innocuously Important Episode:
- This episode introduces the Meta-Breed, the most reoccurring villains of the series. Their leader, Ebon, would become the number one contender for Static's Arch-Enemy, surpassing even Hotstreak, and would also turn out to be the older brother of Static's one-time enemy (and eventual ally) Rubberband Man.
- At the end of this episode, Derek submits himself to research in hopes of being cured. The prospect of a cure proved to be the major arc of the last season, reaching its ultimate conclusion in the Grand Finale.
- Not So Similar: Ebon tries to convince Derek to join the Meta Breed, convincing him they are both Bang Babies who had their lives ruined by their mutations. By the end of the episode, it is clear Ebon and Derek are nothing alike. Derek wants to return to normal, while Ebon is a criminal who wants to use his powers to hurt people.
- Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Ebon sees the newly mutated Derek as a potential ally to add to his menagerie of bang babies. Derek, on the other hand, is devastated when it's made known to him he's a mutant like they are.
