Recap / Squidbillies S 13 E 1 This Show Was Called Squidbillies

Go To

When Granny passes away, Rusty must decide whether or not to break the cycle.

  • Babies Ever After: During the last scene, it's shown that Tammi and Rusty are Happily Married and have several kids in addition to Randy, all of whom are squid/human hybrids.
  • Betrayal by Inaction: Sheriff and Denny effectively betray Early by not doing anything to stop Rusty and Tammi, in order to ensure the two can have a life.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: As shown in this episode, the Cuylers had one where one relative would be forced to provide for everyone else until they were too old to run away. With Granny dead, Early wants Rusty to fulfill this role, but Rusty doesn't want the same for Randy. In the end, he finally breaks the cycle of poverty and abuse by moving away. And as shown by the last scene, he succeeded.
  • Book Ends: The show starts and ends with the narrator talking about a show called Squidbillies.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Literally everybody but Early is granted one:
    • Granny dies, but she is reunited with Gaga Pee Pap, and they restart their relationship.
    • Lil is still living away from the family, happy and sober.
    • Sheriff and Denny start a potato themed podcast, and as shown by a Freeze-Frame Bonus, Rusty still keeps in contact with them.
    • Most notably, Rusty steals Early's truck and leaves Dougal County to marry Tammi, with the implication he probably won't come back.
  • Grand Finale: The final episode of Squidbillies.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Early is the only Cuyler who doesn't get a good ending, and gets his truck stolen. Per the narrator, he ended up living the rest of his days in poverty because he was too lazy to do anything about it.
