Peter finds Mary Jane only to discover that it's a water based clone of the original just like Hydro-Man. Professor Miles Warren whose experiments were banned by the government is approached by an anonymous benefactor to continue his research. Having learned from news reports about the real Hydro-Man and his obsession with the real Mary Jane first creating a clone of Hydro-Man and after the real Mary Jane disappears after the fight between Spider-Man and the first Green Goblin forces Warren to create a clone of Mary Jane for him and only him. But the Mary Jane clone escaped and came back to Peter during the incident involving Spider-Man The Punisher and Harry Osborn the second Green Goblin. After weeks of countless searching Warren manages to track the clone Mary Jane for the clone Hydro-Man unfortunately it's too late as Professor Warren has just discovered the clones have been disintegrating for some time and only have a few minutes left to live. As Hydro-Man goes ballistic he begins to evaporate shortly after the clone Mary Jane evaporates as well her final words to Peter if any part of her is like the real Mary Jane then she loves Peter more than anything. As she says this again for the last time she evaporates leaving Peter in a berserker rage and grief as Spider-Man wonders where the real Mary Jane is Madame Web reappears into his life despite Peter telling her in their last encounter that he wanted nothing more to do with her but the Great Battle Madame Web has referenced before has finally begun and she promises to to take Peter to see the real Mary Jane only if he does as she commands.

- Exact Words: When Hydro-Man returns for Mary Jane, he insists that they were made for each other. As it turns out, he and Mary Jane are actually clones of the originals that Miles Warren created. When the Hydro-Man clone, retaining the memories of the original, insisted on a clone of Mary Jane when the real one disappeared, the Mary Jane clone also retained the memories of original and reunited with Peter out of the love the two had. As Warren said, they were literally made for each other
- Metaphorically True: Miles Warren introduces himself as Mary Jane's father when she meets him. Specifically, this Mary Jane's father, or more accurately her creator that used hair samples to make a clone to be cloned Hydro-Man's lover.
- The Reveal: The Mary Jane that appeared after disappearing is not the "real" Mary Jane but a clone created by Warren.
