Dark Side of the Moon IIICrona's thorny attacks are too much for Maka Albarn and Black☆Star to bypass to rescue their weapons, Soul Eater and Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, who are trapped by Crona's Rose Thorns Storm. As neither meister can wield a weapon because Crona disrupted their soul wavelengths, Spirit Albarn demands Maka wield him and successfully rescues Soul and Tsubaki. Upon learning that a child can wield their parent's weapon form regardless of wavelength disruption, Crona becomes overwhelmed by guilt for killing their mother, Medusa. From within Crona's body, Asura uses this opportunity to reassert control, re-emerging and consuming Crona.

"Dark Side of the Moon Arc" contains examples of:

  • And the Adventure Continues: Maka vows to see Crona again, that they would defeat the kishin no matter how many times they would have to
  • As Long as There Is Evil: Crona tells Maka that Asura, the embodiment of madness born of fear, cannot be killed as long as there is fear in the world. This is why they proceed to seal him on the Moon instead, and it is likely that Lord Death sealed Asura under Death City in the first place for the same reason.
  • Assimilation Backfire: Crona tries to absorb asura into themselves but becomes morally weakened after seeing Maka and Spirit work together in a healthy parent child relationship, giving Asura the opening he needed to overwhelm Crona.
  • Babies Ever After: Marie is revealed to be pregnant with Steins child in the last chapter,
  • Barrier Maiden: Crona seals themself away with Asura on the moon, possibly forever, to keep the world safe from his madness, similar to how Death Sealed himself away in death city.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Crona learns this the hard way when Asura absorbs them in the form of Assimilation Backfire
  • Grand Finale: serves as one to the Manga series
  • Go Out with a Smile: Spirit keeps a calm face even when facing a tidal wave of mad blood about to imprison him, Marie, and Sid on the moon for Maka's sake.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Crona ultimately seals up Asura alongside them on the moon to save Maka and the world from his madness
  • I Will Wait for You: Non-romantic (unless you ship them) version. Crona makes this sort of vow to Maka when, right before they make their Heroic Sacrifice and imprison themselves alongside Asura, she tells them that she'll come back for them someday and tells them to wait for her. The series ended right after, but on the hopeful note that they may yet be reunited, someday.
  • Killed Off for Real: When Kid finally ascends as a true Grim Reaper, Lord Death happily passes on.
  • Official Couple: Marie is revealed to be pregnant with Steins child in the last chapter
  • Pregnant Badass: Marie is revealed to be pregnant with steins child in the last chapter and is implied to have been before the battle on the moon started
  • There Can Only Be One: Excalibur explains that there can only be one Grim Reaper. Thus as Lord Death's son Death the Kid awakens more and more to his Grim Reaper powers, his father's mask begins to crack and when he succeeds in achieving his full power, his father disappears completely, only leaving behind his cloak for Death the Kid to inherit.
