"A Dastardly Deed" provides examples of:
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Eggman getting six of the Chaos Emeralds and Chris being kidnapped. With Sonic chasing after the Egg Fort II.
- Did You Actually Believe...?: Eggman gives Chris such a speech after double-crossing Knuckles and taking the Emeralds for himself, making it clear that unlike Sonic and co., he has never cared about returning to their home planet. All he cares about is establishing his empire, and he can do so on either Earth or Sonic's world:Chris: What do you think you're doing, Eggman?!
Eggman: Wise up! You didn't really believe that I was homesick like your loser friends, did you? The only thing I care about is establishing the Eggman Empire. I can do that on my planet, or yours. It makes no difference to me. - Horrible Judge of Character: Knuckles turns to Eggman in desperation to return home, making a deal to give him the Chaos Emeralds Sonic and co. have already collected in exchange for him inducing Chaos Control. Unsurprisingly, Eggman double-crosses Knuckles and ejects him from the Egg Fort the second Knux hands the Emeralds over.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Knuckles is so desperate to return home to the Master Emerald that he ends up deciding their best chance at returning to their home world is by making a deal with Eggman and giving him the rest of the Chaos Emeralds so he can induce Chaos Control. Unsurprisingly, the minute Knuckles hands them over, Eggman double-crosses him, takes Chris hostage, and ejects Knuckles from the Egg Fort.
