A Day in the Limelight episode centered on Sniffles, a nerdy anteater who has the talent for inventing complex machines. In this episode, the sneak peek of Sonic's design in his upcoming 2020 movie has gotten negative reception from across the globe, so Sniffles steps up to hack into the system.
"Sonic got Hacked" contains examples of:
- Bittersweet Ending: Everybody but Splendid dies in the end, but hey, at least Sonic's design has improved.
- Blind Mistake: The Mole ends up killing Handy with his crane.
- The Cameo: SpongeBob, Cuddles, and Flaky only appear in the crowd scene. Flaky doesn't even move.
- A Day in the Limelight: Serves as this for Sniffles, as, although he's been around before, this is the first time he gotten a starring role. He essentially became a main character at this point.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Before he becomes a major character, Cuddles makes a brief appearance as a part of the paparazzi.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: SpongeBob, Russell, and Cuddles are sliced in half by the cardboard poster displaying Sonic's redesign.
- Karma Houdini: Sniffles gets away with hacking into the movie's website, especially since he was one of the very few characters who survived in this episode.
- Idiot Houdini: Mime causes everybody to die in the episode because he has gotten distracted from his task by the cold temperature, yet he's also one of the few survivors.
- Squashed Flat: The entire crowd is crushed flat by the cardboard poster used to reveal Sonic's redesign.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Handy, SpongeBob, Cuddles, Petunia, Flaky, Giggles, Squidward, Lumpy, Disco Bear, Nutty, and Kirby die.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: Sniffles, Mime, and Splendid survive.
- Toilet Humor: Right after the scene where Sniffles "hacks into the program", it cuts into a shot where Shrek is on the toilet, defecating his brains out. He then suddenly explodes, which covers his entire body except for his eyes in black soot.
